Can you recommend a good body moisturising cream/oil please?

I recently had a massage (birthday present from DH - lovely!) and was told my skin is very dry. The products she used were lovely but very very expensive and a brand I had never heard of.

Wondering if you S&B mumsnetters had some recommendations! Smile

What do you currently use? Personally, I'm a fan of plain old Nivea. Works well and you can buy the one for dry skin, but it only works if you use it regularly.

Also, get some bio oil and use a few drops in the bath once or twice a week. I find that really helps to deep moisterize my skin.

I'm currently experiencing pregnancy related itchiness and am finding aloe vera gel works well - the bits of me that aren't itchy are feeling incredible soft and moist. But it's quite sticky, so not something you want to slap on and then immediately put your clothes on over!

Palmers Cocoabutter for me.

palmers deffo

E45 stuff. Cheap and relatively few nasties. Try to avoid ones with too much perfume and alcohol.

McDreamy · 01/03/2011 17:40

Does anyone use an oil based one? I do have a bottle of Bio-oil so might use that up first.

I love Margaret Dabbs dry emu oil! It's designed for dry feet but I've been using it on legs and stomach - perfect! My skin gets very dry, especially in winter, and I scratch myself terribly. This really helps without being too oily, and you only need a few sprays so it lasts for a long time.

I bought it in the Margaret Dabbs salon in Marylebone but one can get double the amount for the same money online (£20 for 200 ml).

Regarding oils, I used Clarins and Decleor oils in my last pregnancy and both were nice.

But my favourite body lotion is Kiehl's Creme de Corps. Bit pricey unless you can get it in the States.

MooMinCow · 01/03/2011 18:20

lush's dream cream (subtle smell unlike their other products), body shop body butters (the shea or cocoa butter v good for dry skin).

lotion wise I like palmers unscented cocoa butter or the Jergens ones.

Palmers skin therapy oil - it's fab. The palmer's moisturising oil is also good but takes much longer to absorb.

McDreamy · 01/03/2011 18:43

I might give the Palmers therapy oil a go. I find the Body Shop stuff a bit too perfumed for me, I have a couple of tubs of different flavours but can't get on with it.

Another vote for Palmers Cocoa Butter here. Great for dry skin and leaves you smelling like chocolate!

Fluffycloudland77 · 01/03/2011 20:35

Doublebase gel, you don't need to rub it in just smooth it on and it just sort of forms a gel layer.

It's not sticky though so you can get dressed straight away.

LolaLadybird · 01/03/2011 23:00

Sanctuary spray oil - really quick to use so I use it every morning when I get out of the shower (literally takes a minute), keeps skin really soft.

Jewelsandgems · 01/03/2011 23:40

I use soap and glory righteous butter and its makes my rough wintery skin come out like glowing smooth velvet and the smell - well i get alot of comments from the male variety after slathering it on. I put it on damp skin when out of the shower and then as and when on dry skin - very luxorious.

womma · 02/03/2011 08:50

Soap and Glory stuff is brill isn't it? I'm a slow convert to their stuff but everything I've used has been wonderful. Yet to try the facial skincare but I have high hopes after using the body care range.

polarfox · 02/03/2011 12:11

Try Korres Guava body lotion, its very rich and really works; you can get it from John Lewis or the internet. I have dry skin and it really makes a difference; I ve tried SO many, this is fab!

If you prefer an oil, Loccitane do a great almond oil one, its super with no overpowering smell.

I like the Soap and Glory range, might look into that. Thanks for all the recommendations Smile
