I'd say mine started calming down abiut a month ago - maybe just over. DD is 6 months, 3 weeks.

It's horrid isn't it! I had head lice too (thanks dd1!). Imagine nit combing hair 2 months post partum!

Calmed down now and dd2 is 5 months.

Sorry to say it Dozey, but the best bit is yet to come - in two or three months time when the hair starts to grow back and you get an attractive fluffy 'mullet' effect!! As that gets longer your head will look kind of 'square' and then you'll get a two-tier effect until it's long enough to get cut into a bob and you'll look kind of normal again!

I used to wonder why so many new mums wore Alice bands - now I know they were just covering up their crap hair!

daimbardiva · 01/03/2011 12:13

I think for me the worst of the hair loss occured about 4-5 months post-partum too. And yes, the fluff stage was not good - I was so glad I had a fringe as it covered up the second fringe growing beneath it!!!

messylittlemonkey · 01/03/2011 12:51

I had this after DD2 (not t all with DD1 though).

When she was about 6 months old, I noticed I was losing a LOT of hair each time I washed it and, like you OP, even just absent-mindedly fiddling wiith it, loads was coming out. I have very thick hair anyway, so wasn't too bothered and didn't realise the cause of it at first.

Anyway, after a few weeks, I noticed my fringe area receding and still loads was coming out, so I googled and discovered the pregnancy thing (which was a relief). I wore a wide headband quite a lot of the time to cover up the baldy areas! Grin

I also found that every three months or so I get the hair loss again (although to to a lesser degree and for a shorter time) which I believe is due to the hair's growing cycle. DD2 will be one in a couple of weeks and I'm currently 'losing' at the moment, but the areas which went bald a few months ago have now regrown (albeit in a fuzzy fluffy kind of style).

Good luck!

I had it from about 4-8 months post-partum. I well remember the little strands growing down over my forehead when it started growing back! I got ill-advised layers cut in when it had grown enough to start sticking out a bit, but that was a mistake, it just looked all over the place. Only just about grown them out now.

Pregnancy sucked, apart from hair (oh, and the baby!).
2 weeks post-partum and I have hair like a wispy dandelion - and it's only going to get worse. Get me Wine!
I love my hat.
