Tinted moisturiser: should I bother with a cheapy or go straight for Laura Mercier?

I'm wondering whether to spend my Boots points on a No7 tinted moisturiser or wait for my birthday (April) and go for Laura Mercier?

Is it that good and worth waiting for?!

beijingaling, you asked about the Becca one - I would strongly recommend it - don't know why I forgot to mention it when posting last night, but it's my joint favourite along with Laura Mercier, and I'm actually using it at the moment. Has an SPF (as you'd expect from an Australian brand) and gives lovely glow-y finish.

UML take it back, they'll always use it as a tester. The LM consultants are really good and want repeat custom so will generally want to make sure you're happy.

I'm another LM tinted moisturiser fan. Love it. On especially shiny days I use a bit of the mineral compact over the top and it lasts all day.

Granard · 01/03/2011 16:09

UML, bring it back. They'll change it for you if you stick to your guns. They can easily put it out as their tester.

Have heard good things about the Creme de la Mer tinted moisturiser and also the Chantecaille one.

crazybutterflylady and granard - thanks! I will definately take it back.

daimbardiva · 02/03/2011 10:20

I love the Tesco Barbara Daly "Face Lift" one

Nivea do a good one if the shade suits u (only do two shades). LM is ok but over priced IMO. I was between shades (sand too dark but nude too pale) mixed was fine but that requires two tubes and so £66...

I found you rebel a bit heavy and greasy.

mollymole · 02/03/2011 10:33

i swear by Guinot - expensive but can be bought on internet for around £18 instead of local salaons for £35 and 1 tube lasts ages - 5/6 months used every day and in the end works out less than buying separate moisturiser and foundation

DunderMifflin · 02/03/2011 20:43

Sorry - started this and have only just made it back on!

Thanks for all the advice - I'm definitely going to try LM as I like the sound of the oil free version.

Might see if I can get a tester in the meantime..!

I have only just discovered tinted moisturiser as a concept (after a Guardian article last week) and I'm TOTALLY CONVERTED. The LM one is amazing, and makes me skin look 5 years younger. It's so good.

DunderMifflin · 02/03/2011 20:48

You're saying all the right things LCPO Grin!

I swear by Laura Mercier, used to used the tinted moisturiser, which is really good, but as I have good clear skin already I find that just the mineral powder foundation works beautifully well. I invested a ridiculous sum for the recommended LM brush too, but it was worth it!

TheBolter · 02/03/2011 20:53

Oh,and I'd say a pot of the mineral powder lasts about 3 months, so for £10 pcm, or roughly 30p a day, to look (almost) like I've been airbrushed, it's a steal!

DunderMifflin · 03/05/2011 21:15

Just thought I'd give an update - finally got round to buying LM tinted moisturiser today (didn't get the primer, much to the sales assistant's disappointment! Grin).

It seemed good when the woman put it on in the shop - I'll let you know how I get on in real life..!

No7 great. not on the £5 skin care voucher now, but is on 3for2 with other no7 stuff.

polyhymnia · 03/05/2011 23:13

Sorry have not read whole thread but just to say have never bettered LM.

Tried a bit of No 7 on back of hand the other day and really didn't like it, but perhaps I'm prejudiced.

wools · 04/05/2011 02:23

I bought a tube of the Oil Free version today. I have combination skin. Last week I bought the primer and the sales assistant gave me a sample of the regular tinted moisturiser to try. I liked it but didn't think it was that different to the Boots No 7 tinted moisturiser. The oil free, on the other hand is lovely on my skin, very natural and doesn't look like I'm wearing any make up at all.

CybsFunkyCombinations · 04/05/2011 03:30

I didn't rate lm

tryingtoleave · 04/05/2011 04:13

I bought the Laura Mercier from strawberrynet.com and it only cost $42, as opposed to $80 in the shops here.

verysomething · 04/05/2011 08:59

Have raved about LM tinted moisturiser on the boards here before... so glad to see others using it and loving it! It's particularly good for summer/warmer weather so I've brought it out again in the last few weeks.
