How do I clean my foundation brush?

I bought a new foundation recently and was talked into buying a foundation brush by the Estee Lauder lady (they train their sales people far too well!!!) Anyway, I have no idea what I'm supposed to use to clean it. Water is useless and I'm worried about using the wrong thing incase I damage it somehow. It's £26 worth of brush so it needs to last Smile

So what do I use?

I wash all my make-up brushes with shampoo and warm water. Then leave to dry brush-upwards.

Oh dear, some very bad brush cleaning habits here....

NO NO NO NOT soap!! That will ruin your brushes.

And whatever you do, don't leave your brushes to dry brush upwards either. This will cause the water to drip down into the ferule where the glue that holds the bristles in will rot and cause the hairs to fall out.

You can use any shampoo, apart from one with silicone in it like Pantene as this will leave nasty build up on your brush.

Wash just the hairs (ie. don't chuck your brushes in a basin of water, as a lot of people seem to do) so put a tiny bit of shampoo in the palm of your hand and swish the brush around in it GENTLY - not scrubbing it around. Massage the shampoo in with your fingers to ensure you get all the product lifted and then rinse in warm water, still keeping the brush hairs pointing down and not getting water on the metal part (ferule), then blot and shape with kitchen roll and leave to dry flat away from any heat source (which will also crack the glue holding in the hairs).
