...on looking as natural as possible...

Which foundation exists that you can use but it looks like you have nothing on?

Not sure about foundation - I would advise, especially if you're having professional photos, to go for something like a foundation and powder which will help keep the shine off most of the day and can be topped up if you need to. You might think it's too much but if you have too little on the flash will drain your skin and show up any shine.

I would steer clear of anything like touche eclat which is light reflecting and as a result gives reverse panda eyes in photos!

And I find half strip eyelashes are really helpful as they define the eyes and look really pretty - not fake at all.

Have a fab wedding day!

You could try minerals? If you have bare escensuals outlet near you then nip in and they will apply it for you to see yourself.

A good friend of mine went to the Mac make-up counter before her wedding and got a make-up lesson/ makeover with her wedding in mind. She asked for, and got, a lovely, natural look. She then bought all the products and reproduced the look on her wedding day.

I think the Mac assistants often look very 'over done' but her make-up really was natural and beautiful. I keep meaning to do this myself, although not for a wedding - just for me!!

Havingkittens · 28/02/2011 14:29

MAC Face & Body foundation is really natural looking but does have a bit of a sheen so you'd need some powder to take that down.

I would recommend having your make up done professionally as make up artists know how to find a balance between looking natural and still looking good for the photos. Failing that, have a look at makeupadviceforum.com/ - a great place to get advice for wedding make up.

Hello, try a couple of the make up counters if you can - I did Bobbi Brown when I got married and was very pleased with the natural look.

Definitely want to set your make-up so that it lasts throughout the day and you just need to touch up the lipstick. I have used this from ModelCo, which is amazing, make-up lasts all day. A good primer probably a good idea too, the smashbox primer has won lots of awards.

Would steer clear of a really sticky gloss - given lots of kisses, cuddles, etc through the day.

Really need to try lots of different foundations to find one that you like and gives you the right amount of coverage - Chanel, Estee Lauder, Bobbi Brown counters.

Thank you for the tips! :)

I did my own.

LM primer
Estee Lauder double wear foundation - it really does stay put, plus a loose powder applied with a puff (Laura Mercier lady showed me how) and excess brushed off. My base didn't budge all day.

Second the non-sticky gloss tip. My lipstick was Prescriptives but they've gone bust :(

Mascara I used an Estee Lauder one. Not managed to find a 100% waterproof one so I tested the ones I had by splashing water on my face and that worked best. I deputed a friend to carry a small powder compact so I could redo undereye powder - the actual foundation didn't shift! For the teary-eyed I also recommend lining your eyes with powder rather than pencil or liquid. Less messy and easy to reapply.

Definitely go visit a range of makeup counters though.

The makeup is actually for a close friend (she wants me to do her, save money mainly!)

I have tried some bare escentuals on her, and laura mercier tinted moisturiser - trying to aim for a natural look - but perhaps it is her skin or something, it does not seem to look natural

I know you will always see some difference after putting on anything of the face (obviously lol) but I was wondering if there was anything better than what I have..hmmmm.....there are so many brands and so many people have their own favourites - you get the picture!

If you get the right kind of powder you don't look matte/flat.

Personally I think it's necessary - photos magnify shine 1000-fold and it really does set your base but you don't need it to be caked on. The LM powder I have is incredibly light, it sticks to the base and tge excess just dusts off. Feels lovely and velvety too, whereas just foundation can get sticky after a while.

SnapFrakkleAndPop · 01/03/2011 08:57

LM tinted moisturiser makes me look like a corpse...

Havingkittens · 01/03/2011 09:03

If you want the make up to look more dewy then I'd still use powder but just on the T-Zone and around the eyes to stop the shadow creasing.

Estee Lauder Double Wear is very good but not in the least bit natural. It's about the heaviest you can get! The do a sheer version though which is quite natural looking.

Also, if you want dewy, go for cream blusher rather than powder.

Another good reason to avoid lipgloss is, breeze + veil or loose hair is not a good combo Wink

UML · 01/03/2011 09:04

That is EXACTLY how she looked! although it looks ok on me...

You can, honest! You just need to be very through about brushing it off with a good brush.

I think some skin undertones just get the life sapped out of them by tinted moisturiser, don't know why.

Agree DW is heavy but if you apply it using tiny blobs and a good brush it's possible to get light coverage.

Fluffycloudland77 · 01/03/2011 12:42

I used a YSL primer to soak up oily skin and it worked perfectly so I didn't need powder, my photographer told me to avoid SPF products and light reflective products cos you look a bit pale faced on the photos.

I just did fake bake, foundation, blusher, semi-permenant eylashes so my mascara didn't need to be used and lip gloss.

Did it all myself in about 15 minutes. Looked natural.

whoamamma · 01/03/2011 15:46

I did my own - looked natural.
Smashbox primer (photofinish one - meant I didn't look shiny in the photos).
Olay tinted moisturiser (never wear foundation so wouldn't have looked natural).
Under-eye concealer.
Smashbox eyeshadow - gold/brown colour.
Bourjois mascara
Smashbox lipgloss (no veil, and hair off-face!).
GOSH (superdrug) bronzing balls for a bit of colour/sparkle.

Smudged · 01/03/2011 15:57

I had a friend do mine. We went to the Bobbi Brown counter and explained what I wanted (very natural), I don't normally wear makeup so wanted to look like myself and was very pleased with how it looked.

I bought the crucial or unusual items from there e.g. foundation and 'shimmer brick' and then bought cheaper alternatives for others e.g. brown eyeshadow.

If you go to a counter or do a practice run yourself, get her to wear a top that is similar in colour to her wedding dress as the makeup looks completely different with different outfits.

Also, Crazybutterflylady is right that you need heavier/different makeup to look the same in photos.
