How big is your handbag?

Trying to decide on new SAHM handbag (also have a WOHM bag too).

DS2 is now 2 so I can ditch the changing bag but still need to carry nappies etc around, plus snacks, drinks etc.

Thinking that maybe I have a backpack for DS and a smaller bag for me, rather than a fits all bag which I will fill full of crap and get squash on my iphone.

Will I regret it and end up carrying 8 bags like some kind of bag lady?

here large tote or classic shoulder?

I'd get a large tote. It's easier and more stylish to carry one bag that can fit all eventualities IME. Less stressful too!

daimbardiva · 28/02/2011 13:20

I've got a Clarks bag with two seperate compartments for days when I'm with 20 mo old ds - one compartment for his nappies and bits and pieces and one for mine. Best thing ever - saves all that rumfling around in one large bag.

never understood the need to have bags of kid stuff carting around with you
all that he needs will fit in a largish make up bag therefore easily movable to whatever bag you decide on that day

TrillianAstra · 28/02/2011 13:24

About this big.

madammecholet · 28/02/2011 14:48

I have lots of bags, Blush, however my kids bag is just 1 large bag for when I have them out, 2yrs/8yrs. Its great, fits all nappies/wipes etc, plus sticker books/ DS and games, makeup. It has zipper pocket inside for phone/keys etc.. and pockets for lippy etc..

big bag

It has across body as well as shoulder strap which imo is essential for when you have kids about..

I also use it for work meetings when I need to take my laptop...it's stylish enough to be ok with work suit etc...

:)

I have a largish lady handbag for me and if we go out for any length of time an extra GAP handbag/tote type bag for DCs (which is washable).
The GAP bag was immediately stained by wipes and juice and I would've hated this to happen inside my handbag.

I still end up carrying four mittens,2 hats, dummies etc in the handbag tho!!

FellatioNelson · 28/02/2011 21:14

I used to have a Ted Baker one which was too small, and then I had a Mulberry one which was too big. Now I have a terribly unexciting but practical Jane Shilton one which is just right. I am the Goldilocks of handbags. Hmm

fruitstick · 28/02/2011 21:18

Oh to have a Mulberry handbag that was too big Envy Grin

DH got me the mini messenger style Mulberry bag for my birthday a couple of weeks ago. Ideal size for carrying what I need for day to day stuff.

I don't do bags much. I have a couple of Radly over the shoulder type bags from before, but all pretty much the same style and all dark coloured.

FellatioNelson · 28/02/2011 21:25

I will still use it, but not as an every day bag. It's a tote bag with no compartments so I can never find any of my toot in the big disorganised heap at the bottom Angry and it's really heavy before anything is even in it. Plus, the straps are a bit too long (and I am a bit too short) so that if I hold it downwards it practically touches the floor, but when full it is too bulky and heavy to put over my shoulder, and gives me neck ache. Tis rubbish really, for anything other than occasional use or hand luggage on a plane.

madammecholet · 28/02/2011 21:31

Fellatio you should sell it on eBay and get something of more use! I have sold many bags on eBay to fund my obsession for more! :)

fruitstick · 28/02/2011 21:33

No Nelson, you must give it to me

Ahhhh, fruit, wise you are!!

FellatioNelson · 28/02/2011 21:42

Grin It's the only time I've ever really splurged on a handbag and I got it all wrong. Confused

It is timeless though, in a battered Indiana Jones satchel kind of a way.

Oh my Christ! Don't talk to me about Mulberry bags....

Last year, my DH and I were mooching around a Mulberry outlet just touching the leather and I swooned too close to a large tote. Being newly married, my beloved went out two days later and bought said Mulberry Tote and presented it to me.

It was the wrong one.

I love the colour and the leather's gorgeously soft but my God, I was aghast he'd spent £300 on this huge bag that is just too big to be practical....

I learned a lesson that day....be careful what you wish for!

umiaisha · 01/03/2011 10:44

I have the Mulberry Anthony Messenger which is the perfect size for the daily essentials for myself and 4 year old.

madammecholet · 01/03/2011 16:11

I would beShocktoo if my DH spend that amount on something I didn't love ladolceryvita....can you ebay it now and recoup for another purchase??

LaDolceRyVita · 01/03/2011 16:17

God knows.... doubt it. You never get anywhere near what was paid, do you?

And the G U I L T !

madammecholet · 01/03/2011 16:22

My mother sold a Bayswater last summer on ebay for over £300, she paid a little less for it only 6 months previously. Grin She was V happy...

but had no guilt involved!
