(actually they are on the floor waiting for us to put hooks into the walls, but we did only move last week)

DuplicitousBitch · 28/02/2011 10:06

i have this seminal work it just speaks to me

eddiemccready · 28/02/2011 10:09

A huge mirror
Mayan calender showing the date we got engaged(in mexico)
3 framed pics of ds christening
And, this is very cheesy I know , but I like it and it looks cool, 6 frames with the lyrics of mine& dh favourite songs.
I got the frames from ikea and printed the lyrics out in a nice font.

Meglet · 28/02/2011 10:09

One of Ganesh that I bought in India. It reminds me of hot days and watching the kids playing cricket in Jaipur Smile.

A little postcard of Mary she almost glows in it.

A sparkly butterfly one and a couple of scenes from Greece.

piratecat · 28/02/2011 10:10

I havent got any, was thinking about this the other day.

I have a red metal heart above my bed. thats it.

BalloonSlayer · 28/02/2011 10:13

I don't have any.

My sister has a large collection of family photos on the wall of her bedroom, over the bed, including large pictures of my Dad that we had framed to stand on his coffin at his funeral.

If I had those over my bed I don't think I'd ever have sex again.

MooMooFarm · 28/02/2011 10:21

BalloonSlayer I don't have any family pics in our bedroom for that reason - I just can't concentrate on things if I catch sight of anyone's face grinning down at me!

We have some paintings of where we went on honeymoon and a couple of mirrors.

spooktrain · 28/02/2011 10:28

shameless plug here, but in my room I have two landscapes by my little sister

spooktrain · 28/02/2011 10:57

VodkawithRosie · 28/02/2011 12:16

I have lots, all in mismatched old frames Grin

a Diego Rivera print

a very simple horses head watercolour that I love and I've had since I was 18- I was given a card with it on and I wrote to the company to ask if I could have a large print of it, twas the days before internet

a tiny rococo mirror

an elaborate indian mirror

a mosaic mirror made by my friend

a wooden sign I painted for DH, it has a Carl Sagan quote on it 'For small creatures such as we the vastness is bearable only through love'

Klimt

A moroccan lantern

A boat DS1 made in a box frame

Winifred Nicholson

An old ornate piece of wood found in an old cottage my parents had, which I elaborately painted and nailed on attached iron hooks to hang my pretty bags from. They just sit there attracting dust and get used about once a year!

Picture of us on wedding day

this

Photos of all the children on the windowsills

I want this Elena Kourenkova Anyplace Anywhere, Circulaire. But can't afford it, boo.

Rannaldini · 28/02/2011 12:35

barbieisaskinnybitch · 28/02/2011 13:26

I want a Kate Carruthers now.

spooktrain · 28/02/2011 16:26

wow! thanks Barbie!

medoitmama · 28/02/2011 17:18

Thanks all for posting!Facinating to see all the variety. I know I need and want to sort my room out and make it feel like a special place for me and DH instead of a dumping ground for stuff that needs sorting or doesn't really have a home. (Small house, little storage).

Thought rather than starting by buying paint/wallpaper, I might try and decide what to hand on the walls and work from there.

Out of interest, a few seem to have such different pieces of art in their rooms. Stantonlacy, Redllama, Bristolcities and VodkawithRosie, how do you make youre very different art work work in one room? Any tips or do you just put it up and hope for the best?!

Spook Another fan of your sis here. Is it all painted in Aus? I see from the website that she's based there now.

Oh, and Eddiemccready, I like the lyric thing. Might do one with our wedding song and a song from each of my DDs naming ceremonies.

VodkawithRosie · 28/02/2011 18:46

Hmmm, well my only attempt to tie them together is to paint all the frames white (they were mostly junk shop finds).

The room is very plain too- mostly white, with no curtains, so I guess that helps?

I didn't choose them though, they have just happened, and now that I have to think about it, I am hoping people think I was aiming for eclectic

bristolcities · 28/02/2011 18:47

I think as long as they are hung correctly it doesn't look to hectic. I like a real mix, even though many of the bits i have are inherited and very different i think it really works. Maybe if you think a variety would look to shambolic use all the same frames to tie them together. Oh and it takes months of tweaking.

bristolcities · 28/02/2011 18:47

But the hanging is the key!

Spenguin · 28/02/2011 18:57

5 A2 black and white nude-y portraits of me (yeah, the time the emergency plumber had to come round, that was a mad dash to get them off the walls, let me tell you!)

1 A1-sized photograph of a violin - the fiance is very into them and 'the neck scroll. Oh, the neck scroll!'

StantonLacy · 28/02/2011 19:07

Well, similar to vodkawithrosie we've got very plain light walls with white curtains - I think that it helps that they're all in fairly similar colour wooden frames, seems to work well - but then again, I have a friend who makes a point of using very different style frames for each painting/print she puts up and that seems to work very well for her too!
I suppose if you love looking at them, it doesn't really matter if they follow a common theme or not.

Not against themes, mind - we've got a row of canadian pacific ad postcards up the staircase and I must say I absolutely love them (have also got plans for an fairy tale theme landing featuring Edmund Dulac and John Bauer prints...must not get carried away...Grin)

VodkawithRosie · 28/02/2011 19:32

Stanton so agree with the mixed frames, especially if they are quirky or old ones.

Also love Edmund Dulac

Love the lyrics idea, themes too, and want these from Etsy

Have plans to do some printing after also finding old lady swear words but fear I may cover my house in obscure quotes......

redllamayellowllama · 28/02/2011 19:42

We never went bedroom shopping as such, it is just a collection of stuff that we love which has grown organically. All of the frames on our pictures are in colours that feature in the plate, so silvers, greys and black. Our Walls are very plain, as are our cupboards, but our bed is a big wrought-iron thing, so that works quite well. The gold in the mirror is picked up in my dressing table. I think it works because it probably shouldn't, iykwim,

We also have these and <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=www.atticinteriors.biz/communities/4/004/007/155/064/images/4529715290.jpg&imgrefurl=www.atticinteriors.biz/page/4536813760&usg=__lV5C0PwVYOHo_kPrUPDgjsTQPoQ=&h=375&w=500&sz=15&hl=en&start=0&zoom=1&tbnid=kYEJlsk-T_Ef2M:&tbnh=158&tbnw=212&ei=SPlrTbLREo2EhQfc0cm7DQ&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dg%2Bplan%2Bdressing%2Btable%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dsafari%26biw%3D980%26bih%3D1208%26tbs%3Disch:1&um=1&itbs=1&iact=hc&vpx=697&vpy=-16&dur=3065&hovh=194&hovw=259&tx=138&ty=237&oei=SPlrTbLREo2EhQfc0cm7DQ&page=1&ndsp=28&ved=1t:429,r:3,s:0" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">this is my dressing table, which I bloody love but will readily admit that not many others would!
