Your favourite SLS free shampoo and conditioner?

I can't take this itching any longer. I need to find some SLS free shampoo and conditioner. I bought the Simple range before finding out about SLS and I can't believe it's in their products!

What SLS free S and C have you used that you like?

I use the morrocan oil shampoo and conditioner (SLS free) and also the body shop ones. They have a relatively new range that is sls free.

Bellebelle · 27/02/2011 19:50

The Naked range of hair products are good and smell lovely, I use them for myself and the DD's. You get it in Boots and there's normally some kind of deal on.

EllieorOllie · 27/02/2011 19:53

Louise Galvin, which is available in Waitrose, is completely fab. Apparently Daniel Galvin Jr is also very good, but I've never tried it...

Btw, if you switch to SLS and paraben free shampoo you need to give your hair time to get used to it, as it will currently be used to the chemicals. So you might not get the results you want straight away, in terms of beautiful glossy shiny hair!

Chaotica · 27/02/2011 19:55

Dead Sea Magic range is great.

Chaotica · 27/02/2011 19:57

OMG I can't believe I just posted in Style and Beauty Shock - I have no style and I'm not beautiful (but I have nice hair).

nicole333 · 27/02/2011 20:14

Thanks ladies! I thought I was going to have to buy it online, so really pleased I can get it so easily. Had a quick look in Waitrose the other day but couldn't see anything. I need to pop into Boots tomorrow anyway so will hopefully grab something in there.

Right...shower gel? Grin

OK, daft question here but what is SLS ... and what does it have to do with itching? I only ask because I regularly suffer with an itchy scalp (have to use T-Gel shampoo quite regularly). I've just switched to an aloe shampoo hoping it might help (soothing) but interested to know more.

Furball · 27/02/2011 21:13

sodium lauryl sulfate - is an industrial oil cleaning chemical used in alot of high street shampoos and shower gels etc because it foams nicely.

I use Faith in Nature Shampoo and conditioner, it's about £4 for quite a big bottle and get it from my nearest health shop.

Furball · 27/02/2011 21:14

here's their website

shopalot · 27/02/2011 21:50

I have the liz Earle s & c which I didn't like to start with but realised I was using far too much. Much better now and will last ages.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 27/02/2011 21:52

Bumble and Bumble & Aveda

Doodlez · 27/02/2011 21:55

Earth Friendly range is superb. I used the shampoo on the children when they were little and we still use it now:-

here

JetJungle · 27/02/2011 22:24

I love the Body Shop s & c .... the one I am currently using is called something to do with Rainforests. Hmmmmm they smell lovely.

The Tressemme Naturals range are also very good value for money. As is the Original Source Teatree S & C.

SoftKittyWarmKitty · 27/02/2011 22:27

Another vote for the Boots Naked range here. I use the hydrating shine ones.

HighlandTea · 28/02/2011 00:38

I find anything on the highstreet is not as non toxic as the ones you can buy online. The highstreet stuff may not have SLS, parabens and sulphates, which are the ones people know to look out for but they have so many other nasties in them.

EG, shampoo in the boots naked range has a massive list of ingredients, after water the next two listed; Cocamidopropyl betaine and Sodium lauroyl sarcosinate are both listed as moderate risk by the cosmetic safety database.

I find that there is always going to be something chemically in beauty products, it's how much you are willing to accept.

The less ingredients the better to begin with. The problem with these chemicals is that they are normally certified as they are in a small amount and tested as a stand alone element. However, when you have lots of them they all add up and generally the amount that is in all your products added together would never pass the toxicity tests.

Secondly you want the main ingredients to be little or no risk with the high or moderate risk ingredients being few and low down on the list so they are there in a smaller concentration

BigChiefOrganiser · 28/02/2011 00:57

I use Neways for S&C, shower gel, face cleansers and moisturizers. Find them very good and have been using them for 20yrs now

nicole333 · 28/02/2011 09:57

HighlandTea what have you found to be the best from online? I've not left home yet, but am pretty desperate to get my hands on some asap.

I looked at my Dermalogica calming cleanser this morning and it's even in that! Albeit quite far down the list. I need to check everything. I'm fed up with my ever swelling eyelid that I've had the last few days. I don't want to have to keep on with the Hydrocortisone cream as it's skin thinning and the antihistamine tablets.

And not to mention the ever itchy hair line. It's doing my bloody head in.

I buy a lot of my non-nasty chenical stuff form here

I get a couple of (totally nasty free, and no added perfumes etc) Urtekram bits form Goodness Direct too (dd1 cannot tolerate any extras - so her soap is totally neutral)

haggis01 · 28/02/2011 10:12

Jason stuff available in most health shops is good and fairly cheap but I prefer the Daniel Glavin Jr range which smells really nice (the childrens shampoo is cheaper than the adults and just as good) available in waitrose and Ocado

pollyblue · 28/02/2011 10:13

Another thumbs up for Urtekram, easy to buy online and in a health shop in town. V reasoably priced too.

KaraStarbuckThrace · 28/02/2011 10:17

I use these

I don't use the Luxury ones as I thought they were a bit pricey, but I use the Aloe Vera one, the Seaweed one and DH and DS use the Neem and Propolis one (you'll have to scroll down the page.
DH in particular likes the N&P one - says it makes his hair really soft Grin

They do other SLS/Paraben free stuff too.

nicole333 · 28/02/2011 19:57

Well, I looked in Boots and didn't feel convinced by the list of ingredients in the naked range. So I popped into the Body shop and found the new Eco range. Had a good old chinwag with the girls in there and they were fantastically helpful and really went the extra mile.
They were telling me about the new showergel Eco range too, that's launching this week and got them all out of the stock room for me to smell and then gave me a sample.

I bought shampoo and conditioner (shine) it's the green one. So I'll report back tomorrow on how I found it.

Sorry for re-igniting this thread but I thought that, after a few years of testing some products, that you might have made some breakthroughs?

I've always got a terribly itchy scalp and my body is so dry and sensitive. I have currently got an outbreak of dry flaky skin on my eyelids Blush

It would be great to know if you managed to find some products that you were happy with?

Thanks in advance!

princessalbert · 21/01/2014 12:42

The Green People

shampoo

seems pricey, but it's a large tube - and you only need a very small amount.

I love it.
