Interview outfit - long train journey before

Hello wise style and beauty ladies,

Would any one like to give me some ideas re: what to wear for a PGCE interview. From surfing the web I have ascertained that a full suit is a tiny bit too formal for teaching interviews. Plus I think I'd feel really self-conscious in one.

My other problem I'll be going from London to Exeter for the Interview (about 4 hour journey in all) and I'm worried whatever I'm wearing will look all creased and rumpled by the time I get there. So non-rumply ideas would be great

TIA :)

I am a teacher and always wear suits for interviews, so fine if you want to (and would advise it for a teaching post in school), but for a PGCE and the long journey, a smart dress would probably be better.

What's your budget?

How about something like this?

I would take whatever you wear in a dry cleaning bag with you, and change on the train to avoid getting crumpled.

If you give us your budget, size and colouring I am happy to have a look for you :o

Tethersend those dresses are lovely but £££ and also too grown-up for me.

Ooh thanks bambieandthumper, I am 23, 5'3, size 8 and mousey blonde coloured. I have a New Look/H&M/Next type budget.

If it helps I have already smart grey trousers, smart black flats, and a few smart grey cardigans. I was thinking of maybe just buying some kind of nice blouse to go with it.

I lol'd at the idea of getting changed on the train, I am far far too clumsy for that too ever work. Although I could probs find some stationary toilets to get changed in at a push :D

Have a look at Warehouse - they sometimes have nice silk blouses. I think one of those plus grey trousers and grey cardigan would be fine.

I think it's a really good idea to avoid a suit if you are not comfortable in one, I've seen too many candidates looking horribly self-conscientious in their interview suit. I remember one wearing a heavy wool suit in summer and the poor thing was clearly so uncomfortable - a smart pair of trousers and a shirt would have been a much better choice.
