What items can you not live without .....???

I have £300 to go shopping tomorrow (think DH is feeling a little [guilty] about a 2 week work trip starting on Sunday when DS1 is covered in chickenpox and only a matter of time before DS2 gets it)

I don't want to get a load of tat - would prefer to come home with 2 or 3 items which I love and achieve good value per wear.

TIA - please link if this has been done before Smile

"a load of tat" - basically I'm addicted to a bargain !

JamInMyWellies · 25/02/2011 19:48

Decent jeans.

Frye campus boots.

White t-shirts.

moragbellingham · 25/02/2011 19:51

this has been a brilliant buy for me.
Can't think of another 2!!!

faustina · 25/02/2011 19:56

good piece of cashmere, good pair of jeans, couple of tshirts - god that sounds boring! it's true though - of all my clothes those are the things I've got most value out of lately: paige skinnies, brora cashmere. I might add a really nice pair of shoes for spring - tod's or something - but I think I've already gone past your budget with the first two items!

bristolcities · 25/02/2011 19:56

Cashmere jumper, Jaeger have a great sale at the moment. Iv got a great camel one from gap that i wear all the time.
Decent pair of jeans, Gap have 25% of on denim at the moment.
Great underwear always makes a massive difference. Badly supported boobs will ruin every out fit.

foundwanting · 25/02/2011 19:58

Esprit jeans

Black jersey midi dress

Scarves (lots, can't pick one)

Meggles76 · 25/02/2011 19:59

Dark rinse slim fit jeans
Grey cashmere cardigan
Tan knee high riding boots

faustina · 25/02/2011 20:00

oh yes - good bras. Brora have their ultimate clearance at the moment so you could pick up something (relatively) cheap.

LemonDifficult · 25/02/2011 20:04

Jeans Paige Hidden Hills
Tan gaucho boots
American Vintage long sleeved top

MoonGirl1981 · 25/02/2011 20:04

My personal top three items are:

Green/turquoise sunflower patterned dress from Pepper Tree.

My Dr. Marten boots.

Bright pink/palepink/red/white a-line skirt.

Hard to pick, I came back to this thread twice - I love all of my clothes.

Making sure things are comfortable, suit your shape and you like them are the most important things.

planestrainsautomobiles · 25/02/2011 20:29

Thanks for all the responses - keep them coming Grin

Things that lots of people have mentioned are:

Jeans - at the moment I have lots of GAP, 1 pair of nudies (too small!), uniqlo and Johnnie B x2. Maybe I need to get a premium pair.

Underwear - just had a bumper pack of sexy Victoria Secrets undies sent for my birthday from my DM

Cashmere - haven't got any cashmere, DH has two jumpers and they do seem to wear really well and not go bobbly.

Love the Frye boots too but I read on another thread that they're cheaper in the US so might want for a trip later in the year.

Morag - can see why you have got a lot of wear from the Kew cardigan, very versatile.
Faustina - you're killing my budget with Tod's shoes

Ladyface · 25/02/2011 20:33

Blue check shirt from Topshop

Black slim leg jeans

Boyfriend cardigan from Zara

traceybath · 25/02/2011 20:37

I love these jeans.

Would possibly buy a good pair of shoes - not boots - winter's nearly over Wink

Perhaps a mac/trench coat for spring - Comptoir des Cotonniers or Whistles have some nice ones in.

Jigsaw have got nice breton

And you can't beat Brora for cashmere - lovely spring stuff just coming in.

Or you could just splurge on a gorgeous dress or handbag . . .

BelligerentGhoul · 25/02/2011 21:01

My three most useful items are:

black Anglomani dress
tan knee high boots
grey jersey-ish pencil skirt

But I'd also like to nominate -

black tux style jacket
grey cashmere v neck jumper
decent spring coat (which in my case I have not got)

Gillybobs · 25/02/2011 22:37

I'd buy this this and these

youngblowfish · 25/02/2011 22:54

Great suggestions so far, but I also love my fitted blazer. You could get a lot of wear from something like this. Enjoy the shopping!

faustina · 25/02/2011 23:12

how about a leather jacket? (if you like that kind of thing) Cocosa is having a sale of Muubaa next week, and there are some by Michael Kors at TK Maxx

Librashavinganotherbiscuit · 25/02/2011 23:24

Pair of premium jeans (when I have lost the baby weight, mid-rise)
Cashmere hoody (Brora sale)
Decent bra (rigby and pellar voucher when I have stopped b/f)

Have fun shopping!

planestrainsautomobiles · 25/02/2011 23:24

A good pair of shoes would probably be a good idea - really fancy some tan accessories, bag, shoes, skinny belt without looking too matchy-matchy

GIllybobs - like the MV links but unfortunately I never feel quite right in grey (think my MIL has put me off)

Like the ideas of a blazer - just seen a nice one here in Navy which I might get my DM to bring over with her. Bfish what do you wear yours with?

Faustina Have a leather biker jacket but only wear occasionally when I first bought it DH laughed and said I should be in a boy-band, obviously he has no memory of this comment!

Right off to bed to get an outfit ready to wear tomorrow obviously over some of my new nude undies. Thanks everyone Grin

I read on a previous thread that we should conclude our threads, so here goes....

I didn't do very well at sticking to only 2 or 3 things, the first shop I came to was Benetton (which I haven't been in for years) and bought.. long sheer v. pale grey cardigan, 3 lovely vest tops in white and a greyish colour which will be perfect for layering and a flowering scarf in khaki with shades of blue and coral colours.

Went to C de C, as advised, but after trying on lots of blazers (all in the sale) couldn't find the perfect one and already have a BR petite trench.

Then went to Reiss and tried on lots but only came away with these trousers think I will get lots of wear from them, can wear in the day with ballet flats or high heels in the evening. On me they are 7/8ths, I assumed this was the correct length Blush

Hobbs - to spend £25 voucher, found a summer denim skirt which was the perfect length, right on my knees.

4 smart t-shirt tops from M&S (with CC vouchers) - 2 with utility buttons on shoulders with pocket, one vest with exposed zip up back and one long sleeved navy.

Then to Oasis to change a present, bought tan skinny belt and two pairs (navy & khaki) of reduced houlihan rip-offs, that I really love. They are much better than the uniqlo and Gap versions as they are proper skinnies.

All in all, £285 so DH was pleased. Obviously bought pressies for DS1 still stuck at home with chicken pox.

I was pretty hopeless about only buying a couple of items but everything is interchangeable and I have good shoes / boots to match.

bucaneve · 27/02/2011 15:36

My three most worn items are

*black straight leg jeans
*smart grey cashmire-type cardigan that goes with everything
*dark floral day-time tea dress that I wear any time I want to look a bit nice

If you work in an office type place I'd recommend a pair of smart dark grey trousers as they go with more tops than black or brown ones do

feedthegoat · 27/02/2011 16:53

These boots are the one thing I wear practically every day.

Apart from that my leggings and tunic type jumper/dresses are what I live in when not at work.

Pagwatch · 27/02/2011 16:57

Fantastic beautiful coat. Mine is from Dolce and Gabanna but any really good coat is fab. You can throw it on over anything and look great.

Great low heeled boots. Again wear per pound, great value. I wear mine all autumn and winter.

A great dress for evening. Well cut, one colour so you can mix it up.

bambiandthumper · 27/02/2011 17:00

My J Brand jeans
These boots
Brora jumpers

youngblowfish · 27/02/2011 19:45

OP, sounds like a great shopping spree! Love the sound of the Benetton scarf and the look of your Reiss trousers Envy.

Regarding blazers, a good fit is really important. I wear mine with smart workwear for work, but in general my blazers do get a lot of casual wear as well. I wear them with <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=images.teamsugar.com/files/upl2/0/3987/22_2009/d94f563d6667b356_Cameron-Diaz.jpg&imgrefurl=www.fabsugar.com/Photo-Cameron-Diaz-Wearing-Distressed-Jeans-Tank-Blazer-New-York-3204380&usg=__ue6TFBgJKwdOnkteUT4DmXkz4zc=&h=500&w=550&sz=72&hl=en&start=0&zoom=1&tbnid=LabbIqd6sUjhtM:&tbnh=143&tbnw=180&ei=wKhqTfevNMuXhQfny8S_DQ&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dblazer%2Bwith%2Bjeans%2Bwomen%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dsafari%26rls%3Den%26biw%3D1919%26bih%3D873%26tbs%3Disch:1&um=1&itbs=1&iact=hc&vpx=141&vpy=82&dur=9605&hovh=214&hovw=235&tx=181&ty=96&oei=wKhqTfevNMuXhQfny8S_DQ&page=1&ndsp=65&ved=1t:429,r:0,s:0" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">t-shirts and jeans, winter dresses, <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=3.bp.blogspot.com/_Tvha0jihMAs/SvwdfUMXo8I/AAAAAAAABaY/hvgWl4fKkD8/s400/blazer%2B%2526%2Bdress%2B-%2Bwilfred%2Bblazer%2Baritzia.ca,%2Bdress%2B-%2Bvintage.png&imgrefurl=thestylecollective.blogspot.com/2009/11/guest-stylist-lora-wijana.html&usg=__jkGpvvt-sXBuYdTGZB6RTQ0iZ2I=&h=400&w=281&sz=253&hl=en&start=29&zoom=1&tbnid=IR_DVsyhwMPvKM:&tbnh=124&tbnw=87&ei=_6hqTdO5Oozc4wbnyKjfCQ&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dblazer%2Bwith%2Bdresses%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dsafari%26rls%3Den%26biw%3D1919%26bih%3D873%26tbs%3Disch:10%2C660&um=1&itbs=1&biw=1919&bih=873" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">summer dresses or simply instead of cardigans a lot of the time.
