Tooth Braces for Grown-Ups

I noticed today that a grown-up acquaintance has a set of these. I didn't like to ask questions about them but does anyone out there have any experience of them? I didn't think braces would work for adults because teeth are already established. I have straight teeth that protrude a bit and wouldn't mind doing something about it, money permitting. Any ideas?

I had Clarity braces fitted to my top teeth a month ago. The top right quarter is fine but I had spaces and a twisted tooth on the top left quarter.

I was offered Invisalign but the orthodontist warned that they wouldn't give as good a result as fixed braces and that often patients end up having fixed braces for the last 3 months of treatment anyway.

I hated them for the first week and did consider having them removed and switching to Invisalign. Eating was a nightmare - not because of sensitive teeth or pain but because it takes a while to get used to the food getting stuck on them! Sounds gross and it was but tbh only happened over first 2-3 days. They also seemed really obvious to me, although friends say otherwise.

I didn't get any of the ulcers or discomfort associated with them but then again I pre-empted that by putting dental wax on any probable pressure points.

I have now resolved myself to the fact that they are staying on and its only a year (11 months and counting Wink ) and the end result will be worth it. They have already started moving and changing. I have a very toothy smile and to begin with I was too self-conscious to even talk but now I don't care :)

Thanks Tulpe. You didn't say how much these cost, though. Hope you get the results you want!

Thanks Biryani (BTW, you won't be able to eat one of those for a while if you go with the ceramics as turmeric discolours the wire :( )

Cost was £2950 which includes all treatment plus retainers for top & bottom (my bottom teeth are fine but orthodontist would like them to stay that way and apparently our teeth keep moving throughout our lives)

Invisalign would have have been £3400

Thanks - that's really helpful. Should really stay off the biryanis anyway!
