I'm going to keep it up as I never dare pluck them into much of a shape and I didn't realise just what a difference it makes!

Difference is it lasts longer and the regrowth is finer.

Am I am a yeti hairy girl.

geordieminx · 24/02/2011 22:29

HN a bit far from glasgae... Grin

MrsSnow · 24/02/2011 22:29

I think threading gives a much sharper finish, more definition.

I wouldn't get it done on the lip area again as I found the regrowth to be a lot stronger compared to waxing.

jenandberry · 24/02/2011 23:53

Am I about to get a Magnum style moustache?

CaveMum · 25/02/2011 07:31

I'm a threading convert too, though i have to go every 3 weeks [hairy]

It costs £10 a time (£5 for a top lip) and the regrowth is definitely much finer. Gives a really good shape too.

I wouldn't say it hurts but it can make your eyes water, particularly top lip and those stray eyebrow hairs at the outer corner of your eyes.

Many Debenhams have a threading bar, we're lucky that the lady that trained the local Debenhams girls comes to a salon in our town once a week.

Bonsoir · 25/02/2011 08:00

My eyebrows don't need much attention and I just use pencil and gel to emphasise them. But I'm with winnybella - I'm at a loss to understand why threading would give a better result than plucking. Surely the resulting eyebrow shape is dependent on the artistic skill of the technician, not the hair removal technique, especially when it's a hair-by-hair technique?

marriednotdead · 25/02/2011 08:29

I have mine done and yes, it hurts makes my eyes water. Go around once a month.

It's better than plucking because the tiniest finest hairs get picked up too so the result is very defined.

There's loads of places to get it done where I live so my last venture cost me £4 Smile

Bonsoir · 25/02/2011 08:32

Oh OK. I don't like that very defined look at all!

traceybath · 25/02/2011 09:20

I think plucking can give good resuts but don't think there are that many beauticians out there who have a good eye for eyebrows really.

However the ladies who do threading just seem to see what will work better and do a better job in my experience.

But I'm fair so its not as though I walk around with Katie Price eyebrowns Wink

traceybath · 25/02/2011 09:21

eyebrowns!

Bonsoir · 25/02/2011 09:26

tracey - I really agree with you. Sometimes you go to the beauticians and they are all in there with horrid tadpole brows and you just know that they've got no aesthetic sense at all.

The best eyebrows I know are done at my (very fab) hairdressers - you can get your brows done in consultation with your hair stylist and colourist, to get a harmonious total look.

FreeButtonBee · 25/02/2011 09:28

I love getting my eyebrows threaded. I have very heavy eyebrows and go to a salon where all the threading is done by indian girls. They really do seem to have an eye for it.

They don't take much weight out but really really clean up the arch, particularly taking out odd little hairs near the arch. It's much more accurate than waxing. And at £3 a go, a total bargain. I go fortnigtly or so and pluck the few strays that appear in between. Also I suppose as my eyebrows are so heavy the result is never going to be super defined

BornToFolk · 25/02/2011 09:49

I don't get a very defined look. I ask them not to take too much out, just to get rid of stray bits. The advantage for me is that it gets the pain over and done with very quickly! And the people that I go to (stall in the local shopping centre - £6 a pop) are really good at getting a nice shape.

CloversMama · 25/02/2011 16:35

I am a complete convert. It gives a much more defined arch compared to plucking - it makes such a difference to my whole face. I normally have mine done every 3-4 weeks. Am contemplating have my top lip done (I normally get it waxed at the same time as I have a Brazilian) but I imagine it being quite sore.

youngblowfish · 25/02/2011 16:54

Threading is by far the best. I do my own due to the fear of being left with tadpole eyebrows by overzealous 'beauticians' and because I am not so good at routines. Threading gives you a lovely precise line and gets rid of all the hair, giving a much smoother finish.

I learnt how to do it .

If you need any help with the actual shape though, here are the basics.

ihatethecold · 26/02/2011 13:12

thanks YBF . very good video.

twoboots · 26/02/2011 15:07

its the sound that i find weird. sort of like one of those manual lawn mowers. i think the pain like with waxing depends on the skill of the threader.

tanmu82 · 26/02/2011 15:13

I love threading, but it costs more than I am prepared to pay where I live as only one lady does it..... whenever I go home to the midlands, I get it done for about £3.50. I don't think it hurts at all - no more than plucking anyway. I did have it done at the salon in the Hyatt hotel in Amman, Jordan and went the whole hog and had my top lip done too (the lady asked me if I wanted it done too in such a way as to imply that I should have it done!) and it hurt like HELL. She plucked me like a chicken and I even had tiny spots of blood after.....Never had the lip done again since!

TheMonster · 26/02/2011 15:14

I have it threaded every couple of months. They stay neater for longer, the result is sharper, and the hairs aren't growing back as much. Bloody hurts though!

TheMonster · 26/02/2011 15:14

My eyebrows, btw.

activate · 26/02/2011 15:15

Why would threading give a different result on hair growth from any other pull them out by the roots methods (ie waxing or plucking)

Honeymum · 26/02/2011 17:19

I love threading too. Again, indian ladies do mine. What they don't know about depilation you can write on a stamp! They all have lovely brows too. Mine costs £6 for eyebrows and top lip (which hurts a little but I think depends on the technician - my regular lady is great). Best not to leave it more than a couple of weeks - the nolonger you leave it the more it hurts.

upahill · 26/02/2011 17:33

i go about once every 6 weeks for eyebrows, upper lip and chin. the whole lot takes less than 5 mins and costs £6.50.

I love the result. The lady cuts any length of the eyebrows as well so have a nice finshed look.

LilRedWG · 28/03/2012 10:32

I'm trying to pluck up the courage (see what I did there? :)) to go. I'm allergic to wax so that is out and find plucking tedious - my hair is so fair and fine that I think I've got them all and the catch a glimpse at a different angle and I'm furry. :(

eurochick · 28/03/2012 15:40

I think it hurts like hell. It really makes my eyes water too so even if I manage to stop myself crying, it looks like I have been! But it does give a good shape.
