Stuff to do with your hair.

I used to have 'statement hair'. T'was very long and bright pink.

I an attempt to look a tad more grown up about a month ago I had the pink stripped out and am now a dark blonde.

I don't do a lot with it though.

Is nicely cut with a long side sweepy fringe and is still past my shoulders. I love berets, hats shaped like panda heads, alice bands, clip on flowers and little hats on headbands but I never put my hair 'up' except at work. Although I occassionally wear pigtails on days that I don't mind being mistaken for a sixteen year old! I'm also a dab hand at putting hair up in chopsticks but don't have any oriental style clothes.

What can I do with it? At school I was most experiemental but I seem to have lost it.

What do other people do?

Or should you just leave it down once you hit 30??

I use bumpits & sometimes i will clip over one side & have a side plait.

privategodfrey · 24/02/2011 18:50

Or should you just leave it down once you hit 30??

Well pigtails are a bit too young for a 30 year old IMO but I don't think there is a maximum age for an 'updo'

My hair is really short now but when it was long I never really knew what to do with it so just left it down or had a really boring pony tail.

What about trying it in a french plait?

I see that you like panda head hats. Have you considered one of these? I think an MNer had one she was looking to sell.

MoonGirl1981 · 24/02/2011 18:52

I think that hat would scare people!!!

Sad

Can we see the panda? Is he much jollier?

privategodfrey · 24/02/2011 19:00

PMSL!

I think MoonGirl1981 is talking about those cheesy fake fur hats from China

You can get frogs and bears too :)

BarbaraSeville · 24/02/2011 19:02

Ah. Maybe some deely-boppers then? That's not too extreme.

MoonGirl1981 · 24/02/2011 19:04

My panda hat is knitted, not fake fur. The ears are pompoms. Was a present but I think it came from River Island. Not sure.

It is incredibly naff. I love it!!

These are nice, if a little bedroomy.

privategodfrey · 24/02/2011 19:09

LMAO @ "a little bedroomy"

They would certainly get you noticed if you wore them on the school run, I grant you that.

BendyBob · 24/02/2011 19:10

Have you got a styling wand? My dd's have one and their hair looks so pretty when I've used the wand thingumy on it. You get really natural looking loose ringletty waves.

Mines really short otherwise I'd have a go tooEnvy.

MoonGirl1981 · 24/02/2011 19:14

Can't wear willies on my head. Not round here.

I have bunny ears but only wore them out once. Do wear them around the house though.

What's a styling wand?

i just had seven inches lopped off my very thick hair, so now it sits just below my shoulders because I needed a crane to turn over in bed.

I henna mine, and can have it curly (a bit) and straight (with effort).

You can make waves with straighteners, too. Curls, even. No need to buy an extra wand.

My henna costs me £40 a year and for most of it I was using double what I need now.

I do chopsticks sometimes, headband sometimes, clips sometimes, exasperated ponytail quite a lot and curly one day each time I wash it only, sometimes not even that long.

I think it's all about the style, mine's layered quite heavily so curls do well in it as well as being very smooth if straightened, and it's not quite so sheepskin ruggish.

Anyone want to know more about Henna, let me know and I can start a thread. Don't buy any unless you know what you're doing first, some types can fry your hair if you've had other dyes on it.

laosvher · 24/02/2011 19:17

I put it up in a side bun
mostly because if it's behind my head I look horrible and bald
It'd be alright if you don't mind a bit of chavette

privategodfrey · 24/02/2011 19:21

NotJustKangaskhan · 24/02/2011 19:35

My "grown-up" hair involves a lot of snoods, tichels, and caps (basically, this site's got all my hair needs). Even though I love my dark, long enough to sit on it hair, getting it to remain tame (and not a frizzy mess in the slightest breeze) was just too much work and I love being able to pull my hair up, sling one on, and go out without worrying about it. It's low maintenance and easier to experiment.

BarbaraSeville · 24/02/2011 19:53

If you google Topsy Tail, you can do all sorts of weird and wonderful styles. Have you tried a bun ring too?

MrsLevinson · 24/02/2011 19:57

I have a long fringe too and sometimes wear it backcombed into a quiff, I think it looks quite funky. :)
