Long Tall Sally- oh what are their designers on.

As dh has taken the dcs off for the day, I decided to pop into London for a nice lunch and cofee, and went to LTS.
I'd had the catalogue, seen some possible things- but dear god.
The fabrics.
The styling.
The general bleughness of it all.
At least the sales assistant said hello brightly.
Then went to Crispins to try on expensive shoes in size 9, and realised a 9 is too small and a 10 too big.
It's going to be fun shopping for spring Hmm

I have the same problem with LTS.

Even some decent basics would satisfy me. Think that LTS are relatively expensive for what the clothes are and would like to see some reasonably priced basics. I have virtually no clothes and would buy quite a lot from there if they had anything decent.

Deaddei · 24/02/2011 15:58

I wanted new yoga type trousers for Pilates/gym, and they were so voluminous and crap fabric- and expensive.

Oh dear! I had been looking at them and thought they might be OK. Obv not!

online looking

It's not good.

It just seems to be confirming the fact that tall weirdo freaks don't dserve nice clothes.

FoundWanting · 24/02/2011 16:13

Whatever their designers are on, they are getting it from their window dressers if the little display I saw in town last week is anything to go by.

Deaddei · 24/02/2011 16:13

I am getting to the point where I don't know where to shop.
Esprit tops have got smaller and smaller- I am a 16 top and 14 bottom.
Mint velvet- how much grey can a woman have?

I also do not know where to shop!

I'm fed up with LTS, too. Seems they have decided to stop doing a size 8, so now I am left with New Look and Next Tall range as my only source of clothing and both at the minute are a bit meh!! Don't like Topshop tall and Dorothy Perkins tall range is just laughable! Where are we supposed to shop? I used to be able to go to Zara, but tried a coat on in there yesterday and the sleeves were really short, so it seems that they have changed their sizing.

bronze · 24/02/2011 16:45

I actually love them but only because they're the only shop that allows for my hips and waist in tall jeans. I rarely buy clothes though and jeans are the only thing I've bought there, but I do love them for it.

GregorSamsa · 24/02/2011 16:54

They are wanky wankers. They take things that have the potential to be quite nice, and might even look deceptively okay on the screen or in the catalogue, and then they bugger them up by choosing a horrible fabric or colour, or doing something strange to the cut that renders them unwearable by normally-shaped humans.

So for example I have the Carrington jacket for work, and it is actually quite nice. But if you want something to wear it with, you have the options of this dress which looks fine in the picture, except that the darts for the boobs are so high that you'd need boobies that start around your chin to fit into it, or this skirt which ends frumpily at mid calf and has a weird bulge just below the waist, as if they assume that all women have a strange life ring of flab around their stomachs that needs its own little pouch. It really is most odd, the items were both genuinely unwearable on me, and I'm not excessively skinny, unusually droopy, or otherwise odd-shaped.

And that's without even getting started on all the things that are so manifestly hideous even from the catalogue/website that you'd never even bother ordering them in the first place. And it's all really expensive.

How bloody hard can it be? Angry

MrsFlittersnoop · 24/02/2011 17:00

I fled their new Bath store in absolute horror when I saw this season's new stock a few weeks ago. And I've been an LTS customer for work-clothes/basics for 30 years.

Why are the fabrics so cheap and VILE? I'd be perfectly happy to pay more for decent material.

polyhymnia · 24/02/2011 18:22

I'm tall (as well as large) and I've always thought LTS looked horrible and tacky, both online and in the windows (incredibly frumpy). Have never bought. I think that tall people, like people over size 18, are not allowed by retailers to have nice clothes.

zalana · 24/02/2011 20:12

Have to say couldn't agree more, anytime I mistakenly go in to my local LTS store on the off chance that there just might be something I could possibly buy, but always as been said before; such awful fabrics and horrible clothes, dont know how that Lisa can put her name to their clothes; must be being paid a lot as there is nothing remotely stylish ever!

Deaddei · 24/02/2011 20:47

My theory is that Lisa's are made of the finest cotton/linen/ silk whereas the real thing is poly/ viscose.
Some of the styling in the catalogue is appalling. They are using young models to wear what a 60 year old would be ashamed to pop to the shops in- those long skirts .....

Bishoplyn · 24/02/2011 21:16

Totally agree with this thread. Was in the London store a few weeks ago, tried on 8 items and they all had varying degrees of hideousness....left empty handed.

They sent my internet order to the wrong address, I've had a couple of size 12 sent to me when I ordered Size 18, a top got I last year 'developed' a hole, attitude of their customer services leaves a bit to be desired. And don't start me about them not accepting codes....Angry

domesticslattern · 24/02/2011 21:23

I would love to love LTS. I have supported them right from when they were launched, and had hand drawn pictures in the catalogue instead of photos (anyone else remember that?). But the stores are so hideous and the stock bizarrely outdated. I went in a few months ago looking for a plain black long sleeved scoop T-shirt or seven for work. Nothing. Only in beige wool or turquoise appliqué madam. Arg! I hope they read this thread and sort it out as it would be sad if they went bust.

CMOTdibbler · 24/02/2011 21:29

I agree - they really need to concentrate on having great basics which are well made, rather than weird dresses etc.

billybunter · 24/02/2011 21:42

Totally agree re frumpiness. Even the stuff supposed to be boutique and trendy they screw it up.

Been a customer for ten years, in that time I've had very few things I really love.

However.... When they have a sale they cut prices right down. So I, like everyone else just wait for the reductions.
I wouldn't dream of paying full prices. £45 for average high street jeans!

MrsFlittersnoop · 25/02/2011 15:56

I remember the hand=drawn catalogues! Smile

I keep an eye out on eBay for LTS stuff in my size, which saves me £££. At least I know it will fit me properly, and there is a wider selection of unfrumpy stuff because the selection isn't restricted to this season's stock.

Happymummy2011 · 19/04/2011 18:44

It is astonishing that the gorgeous Lisa puts her name to the stuff LTS turns out. She must surely think it's as hideous as we all do. What a huge, missed opportunity.

bronze · 09/05/2011 10:12

Ok people so I have some money. Not much but a bit and I want to buy some summer stuff. Where do you all shop if its not lts?
