Help me build my travel wardrobe!!

Afternoon All!

I need some help please. I'm off to India in April/May for a last holiday before getting down to TTC (yes, I'm a MNer who isn't a Mum!) and I desperately need advice on clothes to take.

I tend to stick to quite tailored summer stuff which will be to warm and not covered up enough for India so I need a good capsule wardrobe. I need advice on what to buy as I want to look chic and stylish (hard when custom dictates no bare legs and shoulders) and not be wearing the same outfit in every photo!!!

It's a 2.5 week trip and we'll be doing a lot of walking around temples/cities as well as going on a tiger safari and for some nice meals etc.

I'm 28, 5'7" and a size 8 but with big boobs and a big arse!

Hoping someone can point me in the direction of some lovely clothes!!

Since you are going to start TTC I certainly wouldn't spend a lot Smile

I live in a very hot climate where there are similar restrictions re covering up so I know the problems.

I saw some lovely high waisted peg leg trousers in Khaki and navy in Primark today. Would have bought them myself but for fact I am 36 weeks. They would be great with a little cap sleeved fitted t-shirt and lightweight cardi

I did however buy a lovely colbat blue jersey maxi dress (£12) which would be perfect for you and easy to dress up and down. I find long skirts (something very fitted over hips and bum that flares out at bottom) and dresses brilliant and so much cooler than trousers.

Hi nancy. Thanks for the advice. Despite planning on TTC I prefer to buy clothes that will last me and not fall apart in the wash (plus it's an incentive to get back into shape) so am not a huge fan of primark!

Thinking skirts are the way forward but have no idea where to find ones that don;t make me look like a middle aged hippy!

I rarely feel so badly / inappropriately dressed as I do in India. Went there on business a few times and my smart cool wool Armani suits felt tarty around beautiful women in long saris and shalwar kameez (regular knee long skirts suddenly seemed too exposing).

I've travelled a lot in Africa and my default business attire there is crisp white shirts and linen trousers, but in India this seemed too frumpy - again, the contrast with super feminine Indian women was unflattering.

Like you, I spent three weeks travelling around India before TTC, and my sartorial nightmare continued on holiday as well! All the lovely floaty sundresses that worked just fine in Vietnam seemed too open, my favourite simple white or black linen dresses looked dull... I bought some kurtas and shalwars (tunics and trousers) there which is what many westerners do, but I am tall and generally prefer tailored look, so these baggy clothes were not particularly becoming.

I think the only outfit that made me feel my usual self was a long floaty skirt with fairly fitted tops.

Don't know where you will be travelling. In many places one can have clothes tailor-made very cheaply (your guide will take you there) but these are typically silk shift dresses and such, so not quite right for walking around temples.

Anyway, hope you have a great time there! I enjoy thinking how we will go there again when Bambina is at least 6-7 years old...
