What can you use to make a very tight curl?

DD is currently curling a tiny bit of fringe round a pencil as it "looks pretty"

Which is sort of does

So other than her sleeping with a pencil in her hair how does she get a small tight curl

A roller is too big, if she uses a kirby grip to hold it, it goes flat

Suggestions please?

perm rollers?

said · 22/02/2011 20:00

rags?

cruelladepoppins · 22/02/2011 20:10

paper and string?

KatyMac · 22/02/2011 20:11

Thanks I'll have a look

I don't know how to do it with rags

I wondered about a pipecleaner (somehow??)

But it's such a small curl I just can't cope with the idea of a pencil at bedtime

get an old flannelette pillowcase.

tear into strips 6 inches long and 4 inches wide

twist into 6 inch long cylinders

Wrap her hair around them as if they were pencils

Tie a knot in the strip, so her head is covered in knots.

Send her to bed

45 minutes later, go and take them all out as she will be complaining that she can't sleep.

Her hair is naturally curly, she just needs to train (Hmm) this curl to look pretty

Do you have a socket she could put her finger into? It works in cartoons.

KatyMac · 22/02/2011 20:20

Sorry crossed posts twice then

She is wearing it tight back off her face with the tiny curl off centre on her forehead

pipecleaners would work...i used to do this as a teenager, wind my hair round it then fold pipecleaner in on itself...used to end up with defined ringlet type curl :)

(as an aside can you still buy pipecleaners?!)

KatyMac · 22/02/2011 20:28

Yes in craft shops Wink

I presume (or is it assume?) some silly pop/Disney star has this as a hairstyle

you can get curling wands with a really narrow barrel which would work, what age is she?

TattyDevine · 22/02/2011 20:42

Pipecleaner is the best idea I reckon, same sort of diameter as a pencil and you can bed the two ends down to hold it all in place...

TattyDevine · 22/02/2011 20:43

I love that you are indulging this by the way. What a great mum!

CrystalStair · 22/02/2011 20:51

I second Tatty Devine. You are a cool mum.

KatyMac · 22/02/2011 21:31

Nah, but tbh my mum told me to pick my battles & this one is so not worth winning; thanks anyway for acknowledging my sense in listening to my mum Wink

@13 I know the amount of attention she pays to me is dwindling so anything to build rapport

Tomorrow I hope to go & get her (pretend) false nails too; which combined with 2 sleepovers & a trip to a museum have made me the best mum in the world Blush
