Ruined my hair.....Again. Any hairdressers on ?

Says it all really before Xmas I decided my hair was too light (dyed blonde) and decided to tone it down, went to a hairdresser friend it went green then grey eventually I just covered it with a mulberry colour.
I decided to go back blonde and have now got white roots, brassy middle and blonde ends.

Should I use a pre-lightener all over to strip the colour then use a ash blonde over this to stop it being brassy

OR

Use the pre-lightener just on the brassy bits ???? (not sure how Id manage this on my own)

My hair is very tough so Im fine that it wont break and have given it a couple of weeks since the first 'back to blonde' episode.

Thanks

If you get a pre-lightner it should suggest that you leave the roots to last because of the heat from your head. You may not need to use any on the roots just see how it goes. I would then use a nice blonde on top.
If you ever go darker again remember you will need a red rinse before the colour.

NO NO NO TO MORE ASH...YOU WILL GO MORE KHAKI OR GREY.

sorry hadnt finished!....a simple toner may sort it out.
or more hilights but a decent hairdresser will only colour the sections of hair that is needed, and use different strength bleach on different columns of colour. you definately need a toner to blend all the shades to one though and soften the white roots (where your natural hair got bleached)like lb29 suggests but i do recommend just a toner rather than a dye as its much kinder. a hairdresser may even use a shade or 2 darker and just leave a few seconds (all a toner needs) anything too pale wont take.
only thing about going red before brunette on blonde is you will always end up a reddy/brown...a professional needs to do this 100% properly. besides, all supermarket dyes are absolutely crap and its always a gamble....how do you know how the colour will turn out? a hairdresser knows what all the different numbers actually mean and how their 'brand' incorperates that.
sorry it sounds like your friend royally cocked up your hair and went against any hairdressing training she may(not)have had.
i am succesful and have been qualified for over 20 years and can offer you more help if you need it

Thanks, My friend is fully trained and Ive seen plenty of colours she done really well.... Just not mine she even called the helpline followed what thye said and still rubbish. I did feel really sorry for her she was really upset.

The problem I have is I really cant afford to go to the hairdressers but I have bought professional colours which is the blonde I used before the go darker debacle. I have managed to get all the grey / khaki tones out but really cant live with the brassy colour it is now

sorry i know it is really upsetting if a colour doesnt come out how you wanted for a professional too.
it really sounds to me like you need to have more highligts, get your frend to do it. she will need to use bleach (pre lightener) but possibly just do the mid lengths, and any regrowth, she may need to use different strengths of bleach down each section of hair.
then you will definately need a toner.
if you tell me, your natural colour and your colour you want to achieve i could give you a few suggestions to use.
for example do you want to be creamy vanilla, are a brunette that wants caramel, wants natural champagne tones, wants gold (not brass).
i can picture your colour on varying degrees but need to know how light/dark you are and what you want to achieve

vicbar · 22/02/2011 23:34

Naturally Im a mousey dark blonde (or blah as I call it) I want a cremy light caramel (warm but not too dark). I usually use Kolestan perfect 12.1 which gives a good colour without any brassy undertones.

cool i work with wella colour although i am really knowledgable with loreal too

seeing as you have tinted darker previously ...what did you use to end up mulberry, 6.71 or 8/71???? im assuming that is a pinky redy washed out tone? then you had bleach hilights.

have more, lots of but finely weaved hi lights with a bleach and 6% on the regrowth but not on the white section, on your mid brassy lengths but not on the ends

i would use 7/07 colour touch (wella semi permanent) with 1.9% just for 2 0r 3 mins. this would give the result of a 9/7 (if you can see a colour chart) it is mega important to get the semi on very quickily and massage into the hair. the semi would add loads of shine and condition.

if you end up too blonde, because of too many highlightes (impossible for me to say on net without knowing/seeing you) live with it and next time you have hilites have some low lites put through....which i think you originally wanted!! have maybe 88.0 maybe, if you use an ash colour it will pick up all the previous ash and turn you grey/khaki/pink again.
i really hope this helps run this past your hairdresser but please appreciate i havent actually seen your hair!! i could explain forever but only a hairdresser

njhc · 23/02/2011 00:03

would understand the technicalities so theres no point (with respect)

good luck.x
