This is for DS coming up 3 and tall with it. He is still in nappies (though we hope that will change this summer)and does not like being cold. He used to object very miserably to being bathed, so it seemeed rather cruel to make him go swimming. However, he thinks baths are great fun now, and I think some taster fun time sessions at the local baths might be in order.

I guess I need to work out which nappy system to use. I note mothercare do totbots, which look quite secure, an alternative might be a happynappy. I was thinking of putting a more grown up looking shorts over the top.

I would like to get some sort of towelling wrap and am wondering about Boden or Mitty James. Also, I note that someone mentioned in a previous thread I searched that you can get neoprene wetsuits that keep little ones warm. That does see a bit like overkill though.

But I woul like to do what I can to help him enjoy the experience, and being warm and comfy would clearly be a big part of that.

We have these for after swimming. I got 2 for the price of 1 as it was my first order. They are the only ones I've found with sleeves in but they are not super-thick. We have had others of better quality which are more of a poncho (without sleeves) but the arms get cold quickly if on the beach.

I would also ask around to find the warmest pools - there is such a difference in where you go that it could be quite off-putting for him to go to a cool pool.

Don't know much about nappies (we used little swimmers) but proper boys swim shorts over the top sound like a good idea. Though I do see lots of short neoprene wetsuits in the pool too.

A splash pool might be a good idea if there is one around you. If it has a shallow sloping pool with fountains and gentle waves etc. it might seem more like fun for him.

I use happy nappy with my DD and it's fine, but she's 14mo so much younger than your DS. I think he'd be fine in a happy nappy and shorts.

Don't buy the happy nappy liners tho - you can buy some boots ones for much cheaper and they do the same job.

When we go swimming, I take DD's towelling dressing gown to keep her warm afterwards and that seems to work ok.
