personal shopper - yeah or nay?

I'm going shopping tomorrow afternoon for a party dress for my 30th. I've had a browse on the house of fraser website and there are some lovely dresses so I'm wondering if I should get an appointment with the personal shopper or just go it alone.

Any experiences? How long it takes? Will they literally bring everything or only things they think you will like / suit you?

I'm a fussy beggar and not sure what I want so really want to try everything as a process of elimination?!?!?!

I've done this at Selfridges and it was very helpful - although I didn't buy anything. It took about an hour and a half. I'm sure it would have taken me longer than that to work my way through the store, and she was very good at only bringing me stuff that would flatter my shape. HTH!

I had one last weekend. I had strong ideas already of what I was looking for, but she came up with some good ideas and didn't pressurise me to buy. Didn't agree with all she said though, especially about what colours might suit me.

What worked well was having someone who knew the sales assistants and could bring things into the changing rooms - the reason I hate shopping is you can't get enough help.

And you can usually take stuff back if you change your mind afterwards - go for it!

My mum used a personal shopper at JL when she was going to wedding and said it was great. She also said there was no pressure to buy.

I used one in John Lewis too and she was brilliant. I wish I could have my own stylist whose job it was to find me clothes. Ahhhhh.

Used a personal shopper at HoF and it wad great. They have a good chat with you first then bring you loads of stuff to try, then bring loads more as they get an idea of what you like. No pressure to buy and you get to try things you'd never have noticed. They are also good at bringing things in your price range so you aren't overly tempted. The best thing is not having to lug clothes around or take your clothes on and off constantly. You just sit in comfort and let someone else do the hard work.

I had the Debenhams one and tbh she dressed me as a 40 year old, I was 30 :(
But agree it was great having people bringing different sizes and colours to the dressing room, you can't normally get any assistance from the assistants in a department store.
