Where to find nice smart-casual work trousers?

Anyone like to help?

I need to find some new trousers for returning to work, our dress code is described as "smart casual". Jeans are obviously out, as is anything obviously scruffy, but otherwise most sorts of trousers/skirts are OK.

Personally I hate being too smart and would prefer to find something I feel comfortable in, so I am thinking of something like smartish dark-coloured cords, or a jeans-style cut but in a smarter fabric. (For example some of my old ones were jeans-shaped bootcuts from Per Una, but in a quite smart black or brown fabric - they worked quite well, although were a little bit 'square').

They would have to be either boot-cut or similar, as I am mostly reasonably slim but stuck with a definite big bum pear-shape, so look terrible in skinnies, crops etc! They will have to be machine washable too, and not ridiculously expensive (i.e. high street rather than designer prices).

Any suggestions where to look, apart from Per Una again? I won't have many shopping opportunities before going back, so some pointers to save me time would be great! Thank you.

Sainsbury's have nice chino type trousers at the moment for £18. I have just bought a pair of Boden straight leg cotton trousers in parchment which are sadly a tiny bit too informal for my workplace, but sound like they might be OK for you.

try Gap? They have lots of choice. I have some black wool ones, and three pairs of summer ones in a cotton/linen mix - all in their "Modern Bootcut" style.

Oh thanks for all the replies! Gap sounds good! Also will have a look at Sainsbury's next time I'm there, but the ones near us don't have many clothes so I would have to be lucky.

The White Stuff ones are dry-clean only though, so will probably avoid them... might have a look at their other ones though, but again they don't have a shop near us so it's only what I can get in department stores. (Not going to do online as I hate having to send things back if they don't fit!).
