Maxi dress like this but....

Saw this dress in a magazine round-up recently and really like it, but....

  1. I don't want to pay £65
  2. I would prefer cotton to polyester, or at least a mix
  3. I would rather not buy from Littlewoods as I never have done before and I'm frightened I'd mess up somehow and end up paying over endless weeks with a terrifying APR or something!

Any suggestions, O wise ones?

ooooh, that is lovely!

sleepysox · 20/02/2011 13:22

Am watching this thread with interest, as that dress is gorgeous.

CameronCook · 20/02/2011 13:31

Oooh I do like that - very different to any other maxi dress I've seen

FoundWanting · 20/02/2011 14:10

This is the closest I could see on asos. Very cheap, but still not cotton.

I've bought a few things from South at Littlewoods and have been very pleased with them. You can pay when you order if you don't want a credit account. They do tend to be more generously sized than a lot of the high street.

FoundWanting · 20/02/2011 14:20

Too dark?

oxcat1 · 20/02/2011 15:53

Thanks for both of those.

The colour is not really important - it's the unusual shape I particularly like, plus the fact that it looks as though it could (at a push!), be daywear as well.

Shall keep looking - it must be out there....!

There seem to be more patterned ones this year. Did you particularly want a sleeve? Asos had a sleeveless one in cheesecloth which would be nice and light for the summer. (page not loading for me at the moment.)

notyummy · 20/02/2011 16:46

I use 'Very' - which is basically Littlewoods and stocks all the South stuff. Good customer service. You can buy by credit/debit card, plus I use the 'Take 3' payment option - basically you pay over 3 months interest free. They calculate how much you need to pay, and as long as you do, then no interest. They are also (for some reason...) often very slightly cheaper than Littlewoods for exactly the same stock.

£25 off voucher Haven't tried it, but worth a shot?

oxcat1 · 21/02/2011 15:51

Well thanks so mcuh for all of those.

I have just ordered the dress from 'Very', as suggested by Notyummy, at £49. I used the code suggested by Foundwanting, and it does appear to have worked, taking it down to £24, which is much more palatable!

It's arriving tomorrow so I'll let you all know what it's like.

Oh - unfortunately another dress 'fell' into my basket at the same time, rather negating my bargains! Thanks though!

Let us know how you get on!

ZZMum · 21/02/2011 19:57

I bought it too from Very with the voucher .. and it comes tomorrow.. mumsnet driving me toward financial ruin...
Thanks for dress though - looks great!

CameronCook · 21/02/2011 21:19

What else did you buy?

oxcat1 · 21/02/2011 23:04

I bought this dress, under the pretence that it fulfilled the criteria of being both cotton and suitable for daywear, unlike the original dress.

In reality of course it is because I imagine myself wafting through fields of waist-high flowers, turning my gently-tanned face towards the perpetually shining sun.

Indeed. I am haunted by the Timotei ad.

Oooh nice oxcat and Grin at Timotei ad

oxcat1 · 23/02/2011 01:15

Zzmum: what did you think of the dress?

Mine arrived, and it is indeed lovely, but.....
sadly much too big for me! I've ordered the 8, but it falls off me and the v-neck is absolutely indecent.

Such a shame! Happy to sell it on to anybody else for the £24 it cost me, plus postage if any larger size 8s/small size 10s are interested? I imagine there's a size guide somewhere on thr website? Otherwise I'll
just send it back.

The other dress, that 'fell in', I'm definitely keeping to indulge my 'long summer days' fantasy. That is probably why it has rained constantly since i ordered it....

Bump to find out ZzMum's verdict!

Oh what a shame Oxcat! It is frustrating when you think something is going to be perfect and then it just doesn't work - I ordered this maxi a couple of weeks ago and thought I would be all gorgeous and Helena Christensen in it. I actually looked like I was wearing a nightie!! I think it must be pinned a lot around the top for that shot, because it was v loose in the torso on me and was not flattering.

ZZMum · 23/02/2011 12:11

it is indeed massive - I got a 12 - ever the optimist and it drowns me .. not sure about the colour though - not quite as nice as on the web site so its going back sadly!!
