Stylish COMFY shoes

What is the alternative to flat, non-chunky winter boits that can be worn with tights and dresses?

I'm thinking of something that can be worn in a fairly smart way e.g. with a 'work' dress and tights and/or smart-casual, with a dress and long leggings, or black skinny jeans / capris and nice top.

Ballet flats look cute, but they hurt y feet like hell. I can't do too much of a heel as I'm 5'11.

I just want something that feels stylish and feminine - not clunky lentil weaver-stylee - and is spring like. Asking too much?

I am a big fan of Clarks or Marks and Spencers footglove range for smart but comfortable shoes.

moragbellingham · 19/02/2011 18:40

the high heeled loafer?

hoxtonchick · 19/02/2011 18:41

bloch or arche ballet flats. £££ but so comfortable & stylish.

moragbellingham · 19/02/2011 18:41

a few more

hardhatdonned · 19/02/2011 19:34

i've been looking at mid-heeled brogues and found some lovely hush puppies that i think i've properly fallen in love with

Sympatico · 19/02/2011 19:44

[thanks Noddyholder - just ordered some sale boots from that site you linked to]

Cristiane · 19/02/2011 19:46

Just got some beautiful shoes and boots from Camper

hardhatdonned · 19/02/2011 20:31

i got these in purple and black

Galdem · 19/02/2011 20:49

Thanks all. Ooh., now, you see, I have always been dead against brogues of any sort (too 'on trend' for me, and I am not a follower of faddy trends), but those are very nice@hardhatdonned. I like the tan ones especially. What would you wear those with? What sort of style, I mean?

morag, I have an aversion to loafers. Plus I think the heel is too high on those for me.

Not keen on the ballet-style shoes, even the 'comfy' looking ones. they always rub my toes.

Any other suggestions gratefully received! thank you all who have contributed so far Smile

Mine are for work - i mainly wear grey trouser suits to work so purple and black work well. But they'd also go well with jeans or with skirts with coloured tights. Very versatile :o When they're in the sale i'm getting the other two colours lol

Galdem · 19/02/2011 21:11

Hi Sympatico. the first two links don't work for me. Quite like the third link, but not sure if too dark for springtime look Grin

I am always drawn to wedges when I look at shoes online, but need to know they won't be uncomfortable. Plus wedges can't be super high.

Like those, Hardhat.

hardhatdonned · 19/02/2011 21:30

Thanks Belligerent :o

The ones i tend to live in are clarkes unstructured flats straight on off the shelf/out the box and no breaking in required :)

marriednotdead · 19/02/2011 22:29

I came here hoping to find something new for my problem feet.

Have just discovered the joys of Clarks unstructured- these are blissful.

tigerdriverII · 19/02/2011 22:32

Hardhat - I am wearing the green ones of those right now, have had them on all day, including a shopping trip. They are fab shoes - really comfortable, a mid heel, great colours, and not expensive at all. I have some silver Hushpuppies too, they are also good. I do feel like a maiden aunt though, recommending Hushpuppies!

brimfull · 20/02/2011 11:27

clarks unstructured are vile and look like kids shoes

noddyholder · 20/02/2011 13:13

I couldn't agree more ggirl I can't imagine who they are marketed at

hardhatdonned · 20/02/2011 13:42

Good work shoes if you're on your feet

marriednotdead · 20/02/2011 21:27

I agree they are awful, especially in comparison to what I used to wear. My current painfree alternatives are those manufactured by the NHS though, so it's all relative I suppose.

higgle · 21/02/2011 07:42

If you want lots to choose from and some unusual choices try Shoon and shops in cheltenham, Bath and London They always have a really good sale where the expensive stuff gets marked right down. My feet are wide and a bit buniony Blush and I've had lods of lovely shoes from them over the years.
