Can I take these shoes back?

I bought some brogues from Office Shoes 2 weeks ago.

I have worn them 4 times, all for work and all I have done is driven to station - got train - walked to meeting - come home. I have probably walked less than 2 miles outside in them.

Yesterday I noticed that the heels had worn down on both, to the extent that the "black" had worn down by about 3 mm and the inside of the heel block was exposed. It is worse on one shoe than the other.

Can I take them back? They cost £68 and I really don't have the time, inclination or cobbler's to get them re-heeled every week or 2! Grrr.

Smile at legitimate use of word "cobblers".

Yes - do. I had some from Clarks - they had purple heels. After about two or three wears, the purple had chipped off. Now we do have gravel on the drive, but I'd expect to be able to walk from house to car without this. They didn't accept there was anything wrong, but took them back and offered me an identical new pair. I accepted, and guess what, a couple of years later (with the same gravel) there are no chips.

The problem with the heels will be the crappy tips the original manufacturer affixed - I had this with Jimmy Choo shoes so had the cobbler affix more sturdy plastic tips for £8 - voila, they've lasted 6 years without needing reheeled.

Fucking shoes these days are all limousine shoes dahling ! Hmm

Under the Sale Of Goods Act 1979, products which have been paid for are legally obliged to "be fit for purpose & last a reasonable amount of time".

Just for your future reference. Glad justice prevailed - have you managed to replace them with something similar?

Havn't managed to replace them. I have huge feet, and they were the only smart shoes I could find that fitted! Will scrap on through winter with my old shoes/cold wet feet and see what sandals summer brings.
