Coral

I wondered what you lot think about this as an accent colour? Flattering For most people? I avoid anything orangey as a first principle so I wondered whether there is general enthusiasm for this.

I do have a couple of coral items in my wardrob mind you that I bought in my first Boden sale and have been dubious about. It seems to me that Boden might do very well out of a fashion promotion of bright colours...

I love coral. V pretty colour. Not sure if it works on everyone. In fact, it probably doesn't work on me (pale, dark hair, blue eyes) but I like it so I wear it anyway. Only in summer though. Would prob look better on olive/black skin.

Havingkittens · 17/02/2011 15:05

Orange has yellow undertones which don't suit a lot of people but Coral, although an orangey shade, has pink and blue in it so is flattering to a lot of people and looks fab on both pale or tanned complexions.

Orange looks hideous on me but Coral suits me very well.

As an accent colour I love coral.
In fact,my favourite nail varnish colour of the moment is coral-looks fab on short nails,no talons!

I love coral. I have just recently discovered that I can wear coral. I'm fair and pale, with a neutral skin tone, probably a spring - I'd never wear orange. Coral has become one of my comfort colors. Wearing a coral cashmere sweater as I type. Think it works wonders for me in scarfs and lipsticks (see the super cute Lily & Lionel ballet scarf). But if it does nothing for you, just skip it.

Zondra · 17/02/2011 15:14

Oooh! I love the print on that scarf. Quirky & cute.

polyhymnia · 17/02/2011 15:26

Agree it's very much around - Comptoir de Cotonniers' spring scarf features it too. Personally, I really hate it, and it looks awful on me. Will be siting this one out, and finding other accent colours.

It's very flattering on hands especially for older skin. I had gel overlays in coral and thought my hands looked a lot younger and fresher (am late 30s) however my best friend asked me why i was wearing an old lady colour Shock
Well, i will stick up for 'granny chic' , sometimes they get it right!!!

Hmmm, I suit fuschia, and coral. But then again I really suit a lot of those colours in the spring palette but look terrible in the other half. My hair is not light and I am not and extrovert. So, in short, I think a lot of those colour analysis things are bullshit! I hate it when clients come to me with the "Oh, I'm Autumnal" and start telling me what I should or shouldn't be putting on them. I have a lot of experience with colour and have confidence in my own opinions.

By the way, Ramblingrosa, coral works really well on dark hair, pale skin and blue eyes. It really brings out the blue in your eyes. There is a spectrum of coral though, the scarf that DonaAna posted is at the deeper end of the scale, you might suit the brighter/fresher version best.

planestrainsautomobiles · 17/02/2011 19:47

I think its lovely but obviously needs to suit your skin tones...I was in Ted Baker today and they had this coral top which looks fab with this skirt. Very Spring / Summer Smile

Havingkittens that's good to know. I don't have loads of coral. Just a really nice John Smedley cardi and a few tops that are white and coral pattern. It seems a bit unseasonal until the sun comes out though.

I like wearing lemon yellow in the summer too (only with a bit of a tan) Again, I don't think it's a colour I'm "meant" to wear but I like it).

I love coral on nails too. Toenails, not fingernails.
