Do we kids still love them? are they really that comfortable?

Just debating whether to buy my first pair ever for DS - does anyone know if the how they are on sizing? DS is kids size 8ish normally

My DD still loves them. Sizing seems to be about normal - maybe on the wide side, she takes G fitting and they're not at all tight.

Meggles76 · 17/02/2011 07:20

I hate them - sorry!

Merle · 17/02/2011 07:26

They are massive. I bought my son a size 2, I am size 6 and can where them to shuffle out to the garden.

AnnabellaFagina · 17/02/2011 07:40

Dd's physio said they are really bad for children's gait

PukeyMummy · 17/02/2011 07:43

Great for summer and especially if your kids go to nursery. You can stick them in the washing machine once a week and they come out clean and sparkly. Also useful for going swimming.

Buy them second-hand on eBay for a few quid, or go for supermarket lookalikes (Sainsburys have had good ones the past couple of years).

I'd say sizing is normal. The JoJo own-brand ones are absolutely massive.

Yes, they really are comfy and light. I was given a pair but only use them for going swimming or putting the bins out. Not at all stylish for grown-ups!

Every child in Singapore wears crocs or havaianas - my paediatrician and osteo think they're great for kids but I have heard other opinions too - guess the medical community is split

bigTillyMint · 17/02/2011 07:58

I hate them, but they are great for beach camping, etc in the summer.

Sports Direct had them on special last year!

nipplesofthenorth · 17/02/2011 08:07

I love them for my DS's. Comfy, washable. I'm guessing the number of doctors and nurses I've seen wearing them would suggest they can't be too bad for your feet? The sizing is big but they are meant to be fit "large" so I buy the boys normal size. DS4 has fleecy lined ones and wellie boot ones too as he loves them.

Not for me personally any more though!

lucykate · 17/02/2011 08:23

i'm not a big fan of them for me, but my kids love them. not for everyday wear though, in the garden, beach, swimming lessons etc, they're great.

Ooopsadaisy · 17/02/2011 08:29

They are great for dossing about in hot weather.

Cheap imitations available. Clean up lovely.

Hideous to look at but who cares?

Sizing is enormous. I take 5 but wear a 3 in my mock-crocs.

beachyhead · 17/02/2011 08:33

Buy wooden clogs, they are sooooo much nicer and cooler.... try world of clogs. My dd has cute little red ones with a flower on that she bombs around the garden in, and I'm not embarrassed to take her out in them.

accessorizequeen · 17/02/2011 09:18

I think they're fab and they look cute on kids. They're meant to be loose fitting but seems fine when I buy to size.
I think the crocs are better than fake ones, the material is totally different, fake ones are just plastic. Jellyegg was having good deals on them, sometimes they do £5 off fridays and then even cheaper!

whoneedssleepanyway · 17/02/2011 10:21

Love love love them.

The size though is misleading, they span two sizes and are a size up...so
Kids:
6/7 is a 5/6 UK
8/9 is a size 7/8 UK
10/11 is a size 9/10

They do come up big more towards the larger size so DD1 who is almost a 10 can comfortably wear the 10/11 crocs and the next size up are enormous on her.

Also even with the real crocs they are made in different places (china, italy...) and the different location of manufacturer does also affect the size a bit.

Think they look cute on little feet.

ullainga · 17/02/2011 10:30

Don't buy fakes, it's not the same. The material is very different than some random rubber or plastic and the originals are extremely comfy. Ok, the original clogs are not exactly pretty, but check the website, they have so many different models - from heels and wedges to flip-flops to boots.

clux73 · 17/02/2011 10:56

Sports Direct had proper crocs for £5 last summer.

lucykate · 17/02/2011 11:35

they've still got some for a fiver, mainly girls and in limited sizes. amazon is cheap for crocs too.

exexpat · 17/02/2011 11:49

DD loves them and has lived in them the last few summers. Unfortunately her new school doesn't allow them so she's going to have to have overpriced proper sandals.

Sportsdirect is good for crocs. I've bought fake imitation crocs before, but the buttons holding the straps on tended to break very quickly.

KittaKatta · 17/02/2011 11:59

The fakes are rubbish.. Speaking as an ex nurse these were the only thing that I could wear for 12+ hours without stopping. surely as they don't restrict the feet they should be good for little feet

spiderlight · 17/02/2011 12:02

half-price sale at jellyegg at the moment - my son absoolutely loves his and they've lasted him two summers. They're brilliant for the beach, paddling pool and splashing around in streams, although not much good for pavement walking because any grit goes through the holes.

I bought him some cheap Sainsbury's fakes last year for an unexpected trip to the beach and they were awful - totally differnet material, much stiffer and rubbed his feet. I'd go for the genuine ones every time.

rusmum · 17/02/2011 13:26

i bought some mammoths from e bay- rubbish . are falling to bits already (since xmas)

LunarRose · 19/02/2011 19:51

Thanks for all the advice - looking at a cute pair of mickey mouse crocs on special offer Grin but their permanently out of stock Sad

brimfull · 19/02/2011 20:00

ds has a pair from market stall
have lasted him ages
no diff to real ones imo

missfairlie · 20/02/2011 13:51

We use them as beach/pool shoes for holidays but kids wear start-rite or equivalent leather sandals with proper support rest of the time. They have their uses anda re great for that but I would not use them as the only summer shoe like I see some do.
