..Please can someone give me some vague clue of how I can look devastatingly sharp and on-trend while being mid-thirties and carrying a few extra pounds kilos?

See, the thing is I used to be vaguely cool when I worked in London and hung out with the groovy types. Then I moved away, had DS, got a bit podgy and forgot how to dress Blush

So I've got two weeks to find an outfit. I'm a 14/16, 5'7", pale, dark hair, decent knockers, the remains of a good waist, but with giant arse and legs like a pit pony. I look quite young for my age.. Gulp.

It's smart-ish casual. I've got about £200, but would obv prefer to spend less so more can go on Dutch Courage Grin

Right, I've skimmed through Whistles and Reiss and it's either hideous or not remotely suitable for one with a lumpy / stumpy bottom half

my comfort zone is a dress over leggings. I have some peg-leg grey chinos that look vaguely decent. Other than that I'm lost. :(

Dont really have any good advice but I share your dilemma. Posted on here a couple of weeks ago about a night out and what to wear-no repliesSad. Its next week and am seriously considering not going as cant see anything I like in shops(similiar shape to yourself). Anyone out there to help us? Anyone................?

Gillybobs · 15/02/2011 21:29

Im similar height/size and like this for clothes adn style ideas. One of the models is wearing nice peg leg trousers possibly similar to the ones you have? Possible pair them with a floaty blouse type top and a fitted jacket. I'd suggest topshop for great shoes which always lift an outfit imo some crackers here

Thanks pink Grin I might have to strongarm a very honest pal to come shopping with me to see what passes the 'mutton' test..

To add trauma, I've just discovered that a certain ex is going to be there.. Damned if I want to look like I've gone to seed. (AARGH!)

how about this mango dress over something really skinny with tottery heels and this leather jacket ? Hey presto - dress over leggings comfort zone!

TerrorFirmer · 15/02/2011 21:43

ooo - love the shape. Makes me think of Anglomania. Not sure about horizontal stripes over my not inconsiderable arse tho..

Gillybobs some great looks on the mint velvet style guide
Terrorfirmer I really like the first look on here stylish with a bit of coverage, black opaques or you could do it with leggings. Primark have some fab £4 control high lycra leggings.

TerrorFirmer · 15/02/2011 21:54

Gillybobs those topshop shoes are great this season. I do love a platform wedge (can't do pointy pointy) Clure- I forgot mint velvet, they are splendid for my age / shape. merci :)

Clure - isnt it great for inspiration? MV take a bit of stick on here but I find them perfect for my late 30s style crisis years : ) Love their style guide.Sometimes reminds me of things I have already I could put together

Meggles76 · 15/02/2011 22:21

Can I stick my nose in and suggest that thick opaque tights over a dress look better than leggings and a dress on those who are curvy? Wear with wedges or chunky heels for an on trend kooky look.

Gillybobs · 15/02/2011 22:33

Agree with Meggles, leggings can shorten your leg. Opaques and dark, heeled shoes do the opposite
