NCT nearly new sale - help me with pricing, what would you pay for..?

I posted in CHAT, but had no luck, so I'd like the S&B ladies to help me.

Some DCs items are from Boden and Gap and were rather expensive and some of my maternity dresses are from Isabella Oliver.

Below is an idea of what I want to charge - are they fair/ too pricey?

(original prices in brackets)

Boden and Gap (age 1-3):
Tops - £3 each (£12-£18 each)
Bottoms - £3 (£15)
Dresses - £3 (£10 - £30)

Isabella Oliver:
Wrap Dresses - £20 each (£80 each)
Tops - £8 each (£30)
Trousers - £15, they are new in original box (£65)

Baby gros to be sold in packs of 5 for £3.

Coats from John Lewis £5 (£25).

Let me know what you think.

Perhaps have a look on ebay - look at completed listings to see what prices things like you have actually sell for, including postage.

earwicga · 14/02/2011 14:07

Posted too soon - prices look on the cheap side to me, but it depends on what the other vendors are selling.

stepawayfromthebiscuits · 14/02/2011 14:08

What kind of sale is it? A table top one where the people will have a chance to haggle, or a ticketed sale where your stuff all goes in with everyone else's? I think that can make a difference to the price you put on in the first place.

stepawayfromthebiscuits · 14/02/2011 14:09

but generally, have found that people at the sales want a bargain so don't pay eBay prices...

EldonAve · 14/02/2011 14:10

I have seen 10-15% of original sale price suggested for premium brands

Babygros probably need to be more like £1 unless they are Boden
Think about what they cost new in Asda etc

LaurieFairyCake · 14/02/2011 14:12

I think those are very reasonable prices but I think people are a bit weird at these things and expect jumble sale prices. At those prices people may not have a lot of ready cash on them.

make sure to hang them/display them properly (ironed) so they look good.

BikeRunSki · 14/02/2011 14:13

Sounds about right for our NCT NNS. But we're tight in Yorkshire! Usually there is loads of girls stuff, so you need to price competitively or risk not selling.

I will pay for "supermarket" prices for 2nd hand premium brands.

hugebelly · 14/02/2011 14:20

It's a table top sale, where I pay a one off fee to NCT (£12, which is a bargain really).

I have two rails that I'm taking with me. I have two enormous crates full of maternity wear, which will be hung up. All clothes are in mint condition, everything else goes to the charity shops.

I'm going to buy some brown labels to write the details of each item.

I may buy some more rails for DCs clothes...

Do people really haggle? I understand that it's a bit of a bun fight, but would people really haggle for a £3 top that costs £30 new?

I'm in North London, so fairly affluent, but everyone loves a bargain!

Sounds about right then - but yes, I'm in another affluent part of London, and people will always haggle. £12 a table is a steal though, so at least you should be in profit quite quickly!

domesticslattern · 14/02/2011 19:04

I would add a £ or 50p onto the prices for the childrens dresses and coats, if they are good quality.
I think you're optimistic on your Isabella Oliver dresses, especially as most first time pregnant women won't know how fab they are.
The babygros will only fetch 50p each if they are supermarket multipack ones, so it depends how nice they are.
Otherwise I think you've got it about right.

The thing with NCT sales is that they are crazy busy in the first half hour, so only accept haggling once the crowds start to thin out.

boogiewoogie · 14/02/2011 20:45

Sorry to put a spanner in the works earwig but those prices are not on the cheap side as far as NCT sales are concerned unless some of them are brand new. I have paid £2.50 for 4 Boden tops in a bundle in one of the sales and that was after all the good stuff had been nabbed by the volunteers anyway! Of course, it also depends where you are selling them. Bear in mind that there are dozens of sellers selling hundreds of items so prices are very competitive.

You are better off ebaying them if you want to fetch them at the prices that you have set. For what it's worth, in my experience, I have put stuff for sale at the NCT 3 times, reducing the price each time and they still didn't go. I tried ebay and sold some items for twice as much as I had labelled them for at the NCT sale. It is however nice coming with a car full and leaving only with a few items that you ca fit in a rucksack!

Good luck wherever you decide to sell.

boogiewoogie · 14/02/2011 20:48

Whoops sorry. I have just realised that Hugebelly is the OP and not Earwig! In which case HB, Boden items are probably right. IO stuff may not sell. I find that maternity wear doesn't usually sell at all.

Librashavinganotherbiscuit · 14/02/2011 22:00

might be different in north London but in my area maternity wear doesn't sell at all at NNS, you would be much better off putting it on ebay.

domesticslattern · 17/02/2011 13:24

I think Libra might be right. Most women come towards the end of their pregnancy, so already have the maternity wear they need. And they won't be carrying big amounts of cash for £20 dresses.

Nothing to stop you putting it out of course, but of all the things you mention, it sounds like the one you might end up packing away at the end and e-baying.

Bettymum · 18/02/2011 13:50

Try selling your Isabella Oliver dresses on ebay before the sale, I got £50 for mine! :)
If you don't get your reserve price, you've lost nothing, and you can still take your dresses to the NCT sale.
