stock of summer dressers won't cut it, I'm sometime cold in those in heat of summer so any suggestions for colder weather - reception is in a tent marquee so not much warmer there either...

thermals!

Changeisagoodthing · 13/02/2011 22:43

A raincoat

collision · 13/02/2011 22:44

purple & warm

tigerdriverII · 13/02/2011 22:49

Layers! It could be roasting in Scotland in May, or it could be rather nippy. Something you can layer up or down easily. Also, marquees are always hot, and you'll be stripping the willow for hours on end, so don't go too warm.

winte clothes

AgentProvocateur · 13/02/2011 22:54

A midgie hood.

Gillybobs · 13/02/2011 22:56

Agree it could be roasting or freezing. May is often our warmest month here, but I wouldnt like to promise you!

Agree with tiger, go for layers!

Carrotsandcelery · 13/02/2011 23:03

I agree with tiger too. It can be boiling in May here. Marquees usually get very warm if the sun has been on them all day and then everyone is dancing and drinking all night.
I would also be careful with your shoes. Marquee floors are sometimes a bit uneven and there is a high chance it will be a Ceilidh. Take flat pumps for the dancing even if you are in heels for the wedding and photos etc.

verybusyspider · 14/02/2011 09:00

great advice - so now I need actual outfit suggestions - layers? what would you recommend?

carrots - I think it is a ceilidh so I'll probably go for flats all day, not keen on trying to walk on grass in heels and its an outdoor ceremony

ceilidh dancing shoes, strappy dress for dancing and warm cardigan and wrap for before/after the dancing.

(p.s. live in scotland and have been to many weddings and formal events in marquees)

Gillybobs · 14/02/2011 10:39

A dress with a lovely cashmere cardi over the top. If you would prefer a heeled shoe I find wedges great for walking on grass and for comfort too

Carrotsandcelery · 14/02/2011 13:34

If it is a Ceilidh then I wouldn't wear anything too low cut if you are atall well endowed as there is a lot of "bouncing"! I also wouldn't wear too tight a skirt - a floaty swishy dress would be the best as there is no coming apart at the waist etc. I agree that a beautiful cardi and/or wrap is a good idea incase the weather is unkind.
this? teamed with something a bit like

this? although the colours may not be just right together. It would be lovely with really cream shrug, shoes etc.

Carrotsandcelery · 14/02/2011 13:36

What sort of shape are you? A lot depends on your plus points and how you emphasise them!

verybusyspider · 14/02/2011 16:21

I'm bout 5'8 size 12/14, very broad shoulders and long monkey arms, horrible knees so skirts have to cut off at calf, I love my maxi dresses, wore those to weddings last year and christmas do's but think they might be too long for dancing??
love that dress you posted link to, price might be problem... wondering if I could see it as investment as got 3 weddings this year!

The problem with Maxi dresses and Ceilidhs is that you and others get tangled in them if they flow a lot. It can be fun, especially good way of breaking the ice with any nice men who ask you up to dance Grin
You could justify the Monsoon dress with cost per wear if it helps Wink It is hard to tell if it would fall below the knee though. Most Monsoon dresses are just at the calf on me but I am 5'5

verybusyspider · 18/02/2011 22:10

I can see length of dress might be a problem for me - I think a monsoon trip is in order Smile just done a quick internet search and found nothing thats looks as nice as their range at the moment (my maxi dresses are mostly from them so good choice!)

You will have a wonderful time, the scots really know how to have a good time, none of this stuffy posing about at a wedding[ grin]

I agree about layers and proper dancing shoes and a decent bra
