I'm 27 and in the last few months have started getting loads of spots on my face. Even when I was a teenager I hardly got any- it's so annoying!!!

Has anybody got any good recommendations for product for spot removal or home remedies??

You need to use as less products as possible and maybe avoid the harsh spot products....i find giving my skin a good cleanse and going makeup free is the best rather than putting on thick foundations and concealers trying to cover. I'm a sahm so can get away with no makeup and just get out the car at the last minute when doing the school run. Do you think you could get away with no makeup and just use concealer under the eyes if you need it?

You should try the liz earl cleanser, they do trial sizes....i think the cleanser and bare minerals foundation really sorted my skin.

I see alot of peope recommend sudocrem for spot, but that just makes me greasy.

I have the same thing. Am 29 and going through teenagedom again (because it was such a laugh the first time).

Witch Hazel is really good. I use it instead of toner.

Very mild soap, such as Simple or Valderma.

Quinoderm cream is fabulous but you must only put it on the spot, not all over your face, as it dries up your skin.

Take multi-vitamins too. Not sure how much it helps but it certainly can't hurt to try.

Something with Salicylic acid. Just look at the ingredients when you're out shopping. I use Johnson clean and clear face wash, it works well. If I get a spot I dab some on after squeezing it and it goes pretty quickly.

Silver soap

Smile sorry, after 18 months of beautiful skin (preg then bfeeding) the little blighters are back with a vengeance so i am pissed off with my skin atm.

gentle treatment seems to be helping me this time. no picking and scratching, but also no exfoliating. using an oil-based cleanser (dermalogica pre cleanse). also, this is weird and probably not relevant to you, but i have always had particular problems with spots on my neck and i've found that properly drying my hair instead of leaving it wet seems to help.

Aloe Vera can be good. I use a gel.

I have had spot prone skin all my life (I am 40 now) and 3 years ago I discovered Dermalogicia and bare essentuals make-up & using these has radically changed my life!

Firstly, the best advice I got from a dermalogica beautician was that my skin was very dehydrated, which is totally different to having dry skin, which was a bit of a revelation to me! I use ultra calming cleanser, followed by skin smoothing moisturiser, followed religiously by a good spritz of antioxidant hydramist and I have barely had a single spot in 3 years.

I also use the bare essentuals make up which seems to suit my skin & my sister bought me a fab thing back from their shop in NY - it's called 'Rare Minerals' tea tree spot concealer and it is BRILLIANT! Any little red patch or tiny spot threatening to break through, you just cover it with the teatree powder either at night or under the regular mineral makeup and it clears it up perfectly.

I also 'try' to drink lots of water (I don't aways do as well on that front as I ought to though..)

Good luck, there are few things as disspiriting as spot prone skin.

if my skin is not good i use medicated cleanser/moisturiser at night, then gentle, light products during the day. sudocrem on spots at night v v g though not especially alluring...

mineral makeup also vvg, have noticed marked improvement since using at as pores not blocked at all :)

I can not highly enough recommend a product called Panoxyl.
I have struggled with acne all my life and have probably tried it all!
There is a range of products in panoxyl and some are very strong, I have found I only need to use the 2.5 strength cream once a day after using Freederm facial scub.
for the first time in my life I am totally spot free.
Its really inexpensive too...read all the online reviews see if its for you :)

makeupalley milk of magnesia

very interesting. Not sure why there hasn't been a Bottom Butter moment.

Remember, you read it here first!

Clinique anti-blemish solutions. Has transformed me from a pizza face to someone who gets compliments on how amazing her skin is weekly.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 13/02/2011 20:10

I bought something in a Chinese herbal shop called Acne 101 getaway. It's great and cheap. Put it on before bed.

MordechaiVanunu · 13/02/2011 20:18

Anyfulekno had an acne thread on here a few months ago recommending a regime shed tried. It worked for me and Ive not had a spot since starting on it after having adult acne for years.

So much better than dermalogica which did improve but not get rid off, and SO much cheaper!!

I'll try to find it.

geordieminx · 13/02/2011 20:21

Witch hazel on spot you feel coming usually gets rid before it erupts

MordechaiVanunu · 13/02/2011 20:24

Look at acne.org click on get started and then The Regime.

It really really has worked.

It involves gentle cleanser, then lots of low dose benzyol peroxide (2.5% £3 per tube fro chemist) and then a light moisturiser. But look at the regime it gives ideas for products to buy.

Do look, it really does work, it's been miraculous for me.

blondepinhead · 13/02/2011 20:28

Proper long term solution, rather than quick fix (which may, if you have sensitive skin like me, only make the problem worse)? I used to have horrific skin, not any more :)

Use a gentle daily cleanser with face cloth like Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish and bin your harsh exfoliating scrub

Forgo the foundation for a while and use a light tinted moisturiser instead

Clean your make-up brushes/sponges regularly and bin any products that smell a bit funky

Get enough sleep, drink water, eat well

Change bed sheets regularly - pillowcases can get pretty minging after a week!

If you still get the occasional spot then use Witch Stick or non-whitening toothpaste sparingly to dry it out.
