Violet or Green?

Is this acceptable for court too?

I like the green one.

Haven't ever worked in a British court, but they'd be a no-go in a court in the US.

If you are being a witness, fine I'm sure.

Nbg · 14/10/2005 16:06

I've put green in my shopping basket but I quite like the violet one.

Nbg · 14/10/2005 16:07

Not a witness. Standing with the person attending.

Prefer the green, definitely. Although the black is better.
Wouldn't wear it for court though!

nailpolish · 14/10/2005 16:09

violet for court i think, but i like the green one better

green is thought by some people to be bad luck, so that might not be good for court! (my elderly aunt refused to wear green or have it in her house)

Nbg · 14/10/2005 16:10

Ok then no for wearing to court. Just get a bit fed up of wearing suits.

OP posts:
GhostofNatt · 14/10/2005 16:12

What kind of court? If you are not working or giving evidence, you can wear what you like but I would be tempted to wear something a bit plainer and slightly more formal to fit in (in civil courts - no real experience of criminal)...

expatinscotland · 14/10/2005 16:14

When I worked as court clerk - basically at a desk where we took in filings and stamped them (and charged people to file them ), you could get away w/that if you were wearing a dressy blouse underneath, but when I was working as judge's clerk actually having to step inside the courtroom, no way. This was in civil court - county and state level.

Nbg · 14/10/2005 16:16

Well when it's crown court I always wear a suit for fear of being shouted at!

But the majority of the time its mags court so it's not all that bad if you don't wear a suit. The other thing is I have to wear flat shoes in case I need to do some running IYKWIM and I don't think that flat shoes go well with suits or smart clothes.

OP posts:
cupcakes · 14/10/2005 16:18

running??!

Nbg · 14/10/2005 16:19

I take kids to court and 9 times out of 10 they come from a secure unit and they need to be kept secure. They have different ideas though sometimes and try to peg it.

OP posts:
Nbg · 14/10/2005 16:23

I can't decide on the colour, arghhhh!

Forget about the court thing then, just for everyday casual wear?

OP posts:
cupcakes · 14/10/2005 16:23

ah. I had visions of a fleeing nbg if the verdict was bad!

Nbg · 14/10/2005 16:24

lol!

OP posts:
cupcakes · 14/10/2005 16:24

I normally like the violet colour, just not in that cardigan.

nailpolish · 14/10/2005 16:25

nbg, the violet one would look nice for court with a pair of smart trousers and a pretty blouse, i think you might get more wear out of violet than green, although the green one is really nice!

depends on what you want to wear it for

pity you cant get both!

expatinscotland · 14/10/2005 16:27

Ah! This is where Naturalizer brand shoes come in handy, Nbg. They do a lovely, low-heeled court shoe perfect for court.

I have found them at a small shop in a town in the Borders region of Scotland, but here is a taste of the kind of shoes they offer - excellent for those who work in criminal courts and who need to be able to move quickly, too.

smart flat shoes
very nice with trousers even
classic and comfy

bonym · 14/10/2005 16:27

TBH - neither (sorry!).

I would go for ecru or black.

Finbar · 14/10/2005 16:28

Just to let you know Cod's Dh is back today and therefore quite likely to be on teh computer preventing easy Mumsnet access for the finned one!

Nbg · 14/10/2005 16:28

I'd get both if I could afford it.

They're both really different. I've just got a mohair type jumper from La Redoute which is bright orange so maybe if I go for the violet.

Oh I don't know!

OP posts:
nailpolish · 14/10/2005 16:30

just click on the violet nbg

if you have an orange one that will compensate for the lack of green one

ie, you will have a sensible one (violet) and non- sensible one (orange)

does that help?

Nbg · 14/10/2005 16:31

Ah right, thanks Finbar. I just saw her about somewhere.

Thanks for the link expat. I'd need to try shoes on before I bought them. Dh and I have both had shoe losing incidents in the past!

OP posts:
codface · 14/10/2005 16:32
