SPF 50 facial sun cream recommendations

trinni · 12/02/2011 21:12

Hi

Standing for 3 hours today watching football and I have sunburn!

I'm very fair and don't find SPF 30 is enough.

Anyone have any recommendations that won't make my face greasy looking or chalky white please?

Thanks

Blardy hell! I am white as a sheet and even I've never had sunburn in February.I use an aussie brand-hissyfit,which is tinted so not chalky and comes in foundation colours.I'll try and link to it shortly.Mineral foundations are good too.

I feel your pain as I too can burn in February - in the North of Scotland!
I love this suncream - it goes on very smoothly and is matte. You need to rub it in really well though.

Shiseido

I am bloody pale but it was v sunny at times today! I hate having a red nose and chest - funily enough, the rest of me will tan quite nicely.

I looked at the Hissyfit stuff - looks good and if its foundation too, even better.

Where are the stockists and are you in the uk

I'm in Wales,I get it mail order, you can get it off that website. I can't use chemical sunscreens as I react to them, the hissyfit stuff is fine as its mineral based.(for that reason I can't use shiseido or sunsense)

trinni · 12/02/2011 21:30

Oh thanks all.

I've paid £££ for different ones that have been disappointing to say the least...

Just looking for something that feels no different than a daily moisturiser.

Why make sunscreen so expensive though?

The sunsense stuff I've seen has a mix of active ingredients, chemical plus titanium dioxide.they may do one purely mineral that I haven't come across,or maybe it has changed sinse I checked it out as I've had the allergy for ages and it is such a pain trying to find a suitable screen every year. The hissyfit is sort of between a tinted moisteriser and a light foundation in use I feel. I also use one by Avene but that does come up a bit white on the skin.

trinni · 12/02/2011 21:41

I find, that often, the baby ones can be quite chalky and sticky.

I was using a moisturiser today with an SPF of 15 (as is usual) but wonder whether it does actually contain any sunscreen at all!

The MAC SPF 50 primer is really good. I use it every day, not because of it's SPF, but because it's a really good primer. The SPF is a bonus though!

trinni · 12/02/2011 21:48

Mmm Celery...
I'm not oily - more your dry, pale, lined old bag!

hellymelly · 12/02/2011 21:52

I'm dry too, typical celtic skin me.

trinni · 12/02/2011 21:55

My daughter has a lovely olive skin and often says she wishes she could swap with me - what?!!

MAC prep & prime is what I use.
Others on MN recommend Clinique city block (spf40) and I'll be trying Kiehls Ultra Light daily moisturiser (spf50) when the MAC runs out.

miche8 · 13/02/2011 08:34

i use clinique city block it sits nice under foundation but i'm sure its only spf 40. I'm sure boots no7 do a spf 50 for the face which i might try next time the £5 vouchers come out.

moragbellingham · 13/02/2011 08:46

Don't bother trying the No7 miche8 - I did (with a voucher of courseWink) and it was sticky.
I did try it in the shop and it seemed OK but it soon was resigned to arms/legs etc but was still a bit yukky.
Good handbag size for using on DCs when out and about however.

miche8 · 13/02/2011 08:54

thanks morag - how silly of me to think a no7 item might be better than the clinique.

peasandlove · 13/02/2011 08:56

Not sure if it's available in the UK, but I've been using the Aveeno SPF 70 for the face. It's not oily and doesnt leave you looking shiny or white

moragbellingham · 13/02/2011 09:05

Amazon for Aveeno, thanks peasSmile

Bunbaker · 13/02/2011 09:09

DD has very fair skin and I use Boots Soltan SPF50 on her. She doesn't change colour at all in 30 degree Mediterranean weather when she uses that.

cabbageroses · 13/02/2011 09:43

another vote for Clinique City Block 40 spf- I use it daily 365 days a year.

MyBoysHaveDogsNames · 13/02/2011 15:02

Me too, the Clinique city block is great. Not sticky, tinted and smells lovely.

olive07 · 13/02/2011 18:31

La Roche Posay, a french brand now avail in boots is excellent, is the only 'over the counter brand' french dermatoligist's prescribe. The tinted spf 50 is lovely, possibly a little dark if you are very pale, but they have a plain one too. Also the childrens SPF 50 contains no parabens. My local pharmacy who stocks it always have loads of samples - so ask for them before buying, its also very reasonable.
