it is very small like less than 0.1 carat I would say, would any reputable jeweller be able to repair this...

am a bit Sad as this is the second time in six months a jewel has fallen out of a ring.

Yes, you should be able to have it repaired. Do you have the stone?

whoneedssleepanyway · 10/02/2011 15:06

No...that is what i am worried about will they be able to fit another stone the same sort of size in this...

I had a stone put back in my grandmother's eternity ring (but I had the original stone) cost me £40 from a local jewellers who do repairs.

FakePlasticTrees · 10/02/2011 15:07

oh, just seen you don't have the stone - they should be able to sell you a stone as well. Ask around your friends, someone might be able to recommend a good one.

purpleturtle · 10/02/2011 15:47

I'm sure they would put a new stone in. I lost the central amethyst from my engagement ring, and the only problem about repairing it was the risk of damage to the CZs - diamonds would've been fine, apparently. We went with a new ring in the end. [complicated!]

Don't suppose you're near Sheffield? I would definitely recommend that jeweller.

tulpe · 10/02/2011 15:54

Jeweller should be able to replace diamond and fix it.

Have you had the ring reduced in size at all? My original engagement ring had to be reduced in size by quite a bit (it was a silly decision in hindsight, but I fell in love with a one-off design in Amsterdam.......much like my DH Wink ) and apparently this weakened the settings of the stones. After the 5th time I had it repaired we gave up and I had a new one.

BlooKangaWonders · 10/02/2011 16:05

they repaired mine but it fell out again and I lost the replacement.

However, I quite like the empty bit second time around as it reminds me of a special occasion in my life when I first noticed the gap! (ignore me, I'm weird :) )

bethelbeth · 10/02/2011 16:25

New stone won't cost that much if it's that size, they'll definitely be able to source one.

I would recommend getting all the claws checked at the same time though as this is usually what causes the problem in the first place on older rings.

BadRoly · 10/02/2011 16:27

I had a stone replaced in my eternity ring when it came out. It was a tiny £20 diamond. I have no idea how much the acutal replacement would cost though as they did FOC as the ring was only 2 weeks old!

ConnorTraceptive · 10/02/2011 16:30

I had to have a diamond replaced on my wedding ring cost £90 for the diamond and fitting. They also cleaned and polished the ring too.

whoneedssleepanyway · 10/02/2011 16:40

Thanks all, I had a similar problem with the eternity ring DH bought me last year but as the ring was only a month old the jewellers fixed that free of charge as we went back to the jeweller that we got it from...this time it is a very old ring, I will see if I can have someone recommend me a jeweller locally.

Not in Sheffield purpleturtle.

If you're in Glasgow or around there I can recommend a great jeweller under the name of bethelbeth shameless plug emoticon

Get a few quotes too - I've been left my nan's engagement ring (missing a diamond) and the 1st quote was £310, lowest was £120. I trusted my instincts & have gone with the jeweller that sounded the most experienced...£280. Ssshhh don't tell dh.
