Due to have an els in a few weeks and know that I will be needing to go out to school concerts etc fairly soon after. Would otherwise stay home and live in PJ's so hoping some stylish MNetters can advise me on a few basic items to see me through the first 6 weeks or so. Have lived in leggings for duration of pregnancy but not keen to wear leggings plus mattress pads! Also plan tp BFeed so need easy access too! TIA!

I'm not sure there is an answer to this. :(
There have been lots of threads asking similar lately (including mine) but not a lot of action on them.

I'm going for legging and LONG tops. Vests under to bf as I didn't like bf tops last time. Scarves for extra discreet attempts at bf although if ds is anything to go by that'll be impossible! :)

Ok I know there was a thread about how awful they are last week, but I've said it before and I'll say it again - waterfall cardigans!!! Wear a breastfeeding top underneath and a scarf, and some skinny jeans and boots. I think it works anyway, it's all I've worn for the last 6 months Blush

Try White Stuff or Monsoon for nice ones. Or a floaty-ish top with a vest underneath that you can pull down to BF works ok too.

I had an elcs 10 weeks ago and wanted to look stylish! Truth is I was so sore I lived in my topshop over the bump leggings for about 6 weeks. So comfy. Last thing i wanted near me was jeans.

Wore lots of tunics from white stuff and booby breastfeeding t-shirts underneath which I love. Second scarves and waterfall cardigans!

Big knickers were a must too!

Good luck

Nice ideas ladies, thank you. I have waterfall cardigans so that's easy. I do not have any jeans at all and have lived in non maternity black leggings for this pregnancy. I just don't fancy leggings plus mattress matty pads at all. I don't think there is an easy answer to the immediate post natal period at all. Having had 2 previous emcs I can recall the sore scar for several months and not being able to tolerate knickers and trousers resting on it. Any other ideas?!?

If you can't do waist bands or anything touching the scar then maybe dresses? Or stretchy yoga type trousers?
Dresses not usually easy to bf in tho due to lack of access.

I agree the maternity pad brick + leggings = not attractive!

although I think I switched to normal pads pretty quick after my emcs as I couldn't stand the brick in my knickers!

Plumm · 12/02/2011 08:47

Giving birth in summer was much easier re the matty pads - could just wear skirts.

I'm due this week and plan to continue wearing under bump mat trousers and long tops until I'm getting back to normal (though will probably spend the first week at home in my nightie!)

I've had 3 c-sections and after each one wore yoga style roll topped trousers or jersey stretchy skirts with vest tops (x2 so one up one down for bf) and then a cardigan and light scarf.

Its not terribly exciting but could be worth going to h&m/new look/primark and just getting some cheap basics and nice colours that will do you through the next few weeks.

beijingaling · 12/02/2011 08:48

I also asked this and didnt get much help.

I'm in jeans, boots, mother care b2m breastfeeding vests, a non floaty waterfall cardi from emandme and scarves.

traceybath · 12/02/2011 08:52

These were the trousers I lived in.

I was also all about the accesories - good handbag/sunglasses and scarf.

soppypreggyloon · 12/02/2011 09:07

Ooh Tracey you sound so glam! :)
I tried but mostly wore a muzzie and a blob of milky sick I'd missed with the muzzie! Blush

I'm gonna try harder this time as will NEED to leave house with ds or we'll all go mad!

Btw new look have stretch- strap vests for £1.95- will be getting one in each colour!

geisha · 12/02/2011 23:18

Great ideas, thank you. You all sound far more glam than I could ever manage! I will just be happy not to look a complete wreck! Will definitely have a look for the roll top yoga pants. After my first baby, think I hid in the house until I resembled a human being again. With my second think I managed this too (only 20 months apart) but I'm not going to get away with it this time. DD1 & 2 aged 5 and 7 and they have a Rainbows gang show 10 days after due date plus parents evenings, swimming, Rainbows, etc etc etc!!!! Arghhhhh!
