Bright red hair.

I'm so tempted to have my brown hair dyed a bright unnatural red. More Aliona from strictly than Jane Goldman.

I have a sneaking suspicion that I'm too old, it'll do terrible things to my complexion and dh will hate it.

Anyone old done it?

My closest freind is a hairdresser. She says it is hard to maintain. she has had a few aliona requests. I myself liked aliona's hair and thought to myself that every week it always looked so glossy, that she would have to work hard to maintain it.

Ooh you local too Fallatio? She's 25, got a bob, was red but she's just gone more of a browny red, very chatty and bubbly. I love going there, I was there last week for a cut, then today for colour...now what can I do next week...

She did flog me an absolutely GINORMOUS bottle of Madder Root shampoo (and matching conditioner) however, it might take me about a year to get through that, might get some piped to your gaffe, there's enough to service the whole of Essex Shock

Alouiseg · 10/02/2011 16:56

Ooh Tatty, I may have to investigate. I used to go to Cinnamon Brown but had to stop because it was so bloody cold in there! One of the menopausal old bags manageresses used to insist on having the door wide open. It gets cold when you have a head full of dye.

I had a nightmare trying to do this, I ended up with brittle hair, a rash on my face and an itchy scalp that was burnt.

Hairdresser eventually fixed it BUT I then dyed it back to black about 6 weeks later as everytime i had a bath my hair just ran and it looked like a horror movie and after even just 1 wash it faded so much, it just looked crap.

looks good the first few hours from the salon though Grin

TattyDevine · 10/02/2011 16:59

Funny you should say that as I was quite warm in there today (menopause you say? Confused ) haha no, it was the lights - they are full-on. They are very telling from a colour point of view too, but I was toasty. I wonder if that's a new thing, I've only recently started going there.

Before that I was a Faces regular (Crouch St one) but that started to get a bit mundane, they became unadventurous on my behalf and for some reason seemed reluctant to do anything to break up my highlight build-up (lowlights? Run it down just once? No...why the feck not? Hmm

Tried FUBAR after that, can't quite put my finger on why I didn't go back...it just wasn't The One.

Cinnamon Brown will do just nicely for now, I love their fit-out. Got I could spend some money in there, Aveda and OPI and Bareminerals...help Grin

Its true Toto - that's one thing red does that other colours dont do, and that is run. Texas Chainsaw Massacre next time I wash. And runs on your pillowcase if you sweat overnight (menopause you say? Confused )

I have a couple of pots of Directions in Rose Red which is semi, wash in wash out veg dye so when these slices fade (which they will!) I will use that to perk them up I think.

FellatioNelson · 10/02/2011 17:03

I used to use Amanda at Faces then when she left I went to CB - and lo! there was Amanda! Total happy co-incidence. She is very good. Nope - can't place Stacey at all.

TattyDevine · 10/02/2011 17:06

Oh. Is Amanda the short haired older (well, older than the other ones in their twenties) one? Dark hair?

FellatioNelson · 10/02/2011 17:15

Yes that's her.

Alouiseg · 10/02/2011 17:17

There's that new salon on Head Street called My Salon it's a collective of hairdressers but I've heard very good things about Rosemarie Smith. She's supposed to be excellent so I might have a little consultation there too.

Do it Alouiseg! I am very pale and it suits me. I have naturally dark hair (if you overlook all the grey I have now ;-) and my hair looked fab bright red. I haven't dyed it bright red for far too long now

Give your squidgy thing a squeeze for me Wink

Alouiseg · 10/02/2011 17:56

Any chance of a pic MotherJack?

MotherJack · 10/02/2011 18:40

I'm having photo issues at the mo as my computer has died.

However, I dragged this one off an ancient folder on Facebook ('scuse the shocking kitchen ;-) - it was my due day, DS was NOT SHIFTING so I went to the hairdressers to see if they could cheer me up. It's not as red as I normally had as they refused to use permanent dye (boo!!!)

I was a few days off 35 when this was taken, and this thread is making me long to have bright red hair again.... maybe I'll wait until I am completely grey Grin

Alouiseg · 10/02/2011 18:55

Fantastic picture. I couldn't concentrate on the hair because of that baby bump!

The squidgy thing just farted...while snoring!

Go for it :) I've used Schwarzkopf Live XXL in Red Passion for years. My hair is naturally dark brown and it gave it a lovely deep red colour which faded to a more coppery colour as I washed it.

I dyed it a couple of weeks ago though and used Schwarzkopf Live Luminance in Radiant Red as I couldn't find my usual dye and I was in a rush and OMG, it's made a hell of a difference! It lightens as well as dying so it's much more vibrant, but without the need for bleaching (which was what I was about to do!)

I'm really impressed with it and have had a lot of lovely comments. I think my roots will be a bit less subtle than with the other colour, but I dye it every 6 weeks or so anyway so I'm not too bothered about that!

I'm quite pale but it doesn't make me look washed out, if anything it makes my skin tone look warmer. I find that I can get away with more daring make up as well when I've had it dyed.

FellatioNelson · 10/02/2011 20:17

I would love to do this, but sadly my roots are so white I would have beautiful deep red hair with a luminous peach strip down the centre parting. But you should deffo go for it A. I will live vicariously through you. Grin

MotherJack · 10/02/2011 20:23

That got even bigger!! He was "encouraged" out at 42 weeks and 2 days. I believe I was quite the sight, walking the dog at 41 weeks!

Oooh, nice, snory farty Squidgebert. I was only thinking the other day that I missed my old dog's general honkings and squeakings. My new (old) dog is generally very quiet, but does do old-lady trumps. Very audible parps, then she sits looking at me as though I did it Shock

Alouiseg · 10/02/2011 20:33

ha ha ha! i know exactly what you mean about the dog blaming you! Rupert lets rip then looks all shocked and surprised at me, then gets out the room and leaves me with the smell. we look after a little cockerpoo who is so quiet we've re named him Stealth Dog.

Fellatio, about those white roots, ive got them too.

OP posts:
FellatioNelson · 10/02/2011 20:34

Not as bad as mine. No way. You are younger. Grin

FellatioNelson · 10/02/2011 20:38

One of my dogs likes to jump up and rest his his paws on the kitchen work surface and look out of the window, to have a nervous breakdown at whichever car/person/dog is going past. EVERY time he does this he farts. I can hear it from tuther side of the room.

Alouiseg · 10/02/2011 20:38

Only by a couple of years. My hairdresser put this guide thing on my roots and declared i was 30% grey.

I smacked her in the mouth, obviously.

OP posts:
FellatioNelson · 10/02/2011 20:41

Shock My hairdresser doesn't have such an implement thankfully, otherwise I'd be 70% grey and she'd be, well, dead.

MotherJack · 10/02/2011 20:43

at Alouise (heyyyy, I'm a poet Grin)

I'm (ahem) more than 30% and I'm the same age as you.

MotherJack · 10/02/2011 20:43

Lol FN!

TattyDevine · 10/02/2011 20:45

I'm about 5% grey but my boobs look like my nan's.
