Do all mums flash their backside in jeans or is it just me?

I reckon for every 3 pairs of jeans I buy I only end up wearing one, and even they won't fit properly. I must have about 15 pairs right now & not a single pair looks / feels good. They either slide down at the waist, flashing slightly wobbly bits & giving me a draughty feeling or are all loose around the crotch & make me look like I'm wearing my mum's clothes.

I'm looking for some skinny jeans that look low waisted at the front but come up a bit higher at the back. Can't do trendy higher rise styles as I have a freakishly short torso. Oh and I have, as DH so kindly puts it, "a really flat backside" which is probably why the damn things keep sliding down.

Any suggestions for brands to try very gratefully received as the thought of going jeans shopping with 2 kids in tow fills me with a dread normally reserved for bra shopping. I probably wear one out of every six bought there (but I tend not to flash them) Grin

Thanks

No real advice but I feel your pain! I suffer from jeans drooping and giving me a spare tyre below my waist! Cheap jeans with lots of Lycra can be good? Or a tight belt ( hideous I know, but ok under a top ). If anyone has a solution I shall be delighted! ( I don't have a flat bum but have no waist so hips are proportionately narrow).

Jeans buying is pretty traumatic. It is a job not to be rushed. Try on everything, when you find a brand you like, buy 2 pairs.

I usually wear a belt anyway so I stop hiking them up. Brands I have found good are Uniqlo, Fat Face, Levis and M&S (Blush but they get a lot of compliments!)

Make it a mission.

Weirdly Select have some nice jeans.

My nicest fitting jeans all come from there.

I have the slidey issue too. I generally only wear jeans with (simple/small patterned) dresses over the top or with longish tunic style tops.

Next jeans also used to be nice but no idea what they're like now and my friend buys hers from Red Herring at Debenhams - she swears by them.

15 pairs of jeans Shock

Buy one really nice, expensive, properly cut pair!

NorbertDentressangle · 09/02/2011 09:55

Can't help but I know exactly how frustrating it is.

My problem seems to be that I'm somewhere between a size 10 and 12 (why can't they make jeans in inbetween sizes as I'm sure an 11 would be perfect!)

I don't have 'saddlebags' and have quite a flat backside so I end up with loose material around the thighs and bum.

Havingkittens · 09/02/2011 16:07

Levi's skinny jeans are really nice. The do a cut which is not too low but not mega high waisted either.

I find cheaper skinny jeans are constantly falling down due to them not being cut very well but the Levi's ones seem to stay up fine.

WheeshtWillYe · 09/02/2011 16:33

I know Bonsoir, I know. I have a problem! I do have more luck with the more expensive brands fit-wise but I've still made some expensive mistakes.

Looks like Levi's might be worth a look. Thanks for all the suggestions everyone.

I always wear a belt as they "give" during the day and what fits in the morning is sliding down in the afternoon otherwise.
There was a thread on here yesterday about Peacocks having some fab, cheap skinnies.

JuicyLips · 09/02/2011 16:52

I had this very problem today, I had a long jumper on but still kept flashing my arse at all and sundry at toddler group this morning. plus keep breaking my belts. Am too cheap to buy decent jeans.

monkeysmama · 09/02/2011 17:28

Try these. Brilliant fit and no bum cleavage at all Grin. I'd order a few pairs from somewhere with free returns if you can. The trip to the PO can be a pain but at least you get to try them in the comfort of your own home with the actual shoes and tops you'd wear them with.

I agree with Bonsoir. I've gone from about lots of pairs to a few that fit properly and I love wearing. Makes cost per wear sense.

Hello, this is my first post in style and beauty! Just had to tell Norbert - Monkee jeans (you can get them at Topshop or Asos) do 'half' sizes and I find they fit really well as a result. They're also fair trade - win win.

nicole333 · 09/02/2011 19:51

Wasn't there a website created for the very issue of finding the correct jeans for your shape? Something like ilovejeans.com I think.

NorbertDentressangle · 09/02/2011 19:58

juniorcommonroom -thank you for that bit of info!

WheeshtWillYe · 09/02/2011 21:55

Thanks Nicole, that website looks good.

I have a flat bottom and short torso but really long legs. 7 for all mankind works really well for me. Their jeans haven an ingenious cut that gives an illusion of curves - it really flatters my backside. Their normal waist / mid-rise both looks and feels good - not much different from low waist but stays on without bum flash. 7FAM are expensive, but you can get them on sale in many places - I bought mine from yoox.com (about £60 per pair) and others have used Brandalley. 7FAM are great quality, I have one pair from 2003 that's still going strong.

Re: skinny jeans. It's a good idea to buy a pair that is a bit too tight when you first try it on. They will stretch with wear so if you buy something that's a bit loose upfront it will be too big for you in a week or two.

Mobly · 10/02/2011 08:40

There is a site online where you can put all your measurements in, specify the exact rise you want, denim etc, and they will make them for you. I'll try and find it.

Mobly · 10/02/2011 08:42

In fact I just googled 'custom made jeans' and there are lots of sites that do it.

Worth a try?

i have loads of jeans and they all do this and yet when i bought them i was convinced they were the one i've been looking for all my life....they are all from the high street - its got me thinking lately that perhaps i should buy an expensive pair.....i notice next do quite a few brands so might order a load and have a huge trying on session, i've going to wear the ones i like for a few hours and see if they still fit well, just hope i keep them in returnable condition hard when surrounded by little ones.

I bought Per Una "Roma" jeans - haha, shoot me, they are great. Not very low at the front but very flattering.
