What's a good foundation?

I really need a new one and just don't know what to buy. In the past I've used Max Factor or No7 but never been delighted with the results, have also tried Clinique whose products I usually love but found Superbalanced too heavy and Almost Make-up and Perfectly Real didn't give enough coverage.

My skin is very annoying - quite oily but also with a tendency to, not exactly dryness, more flakiness which sounds (and is) gross. I've also got fairly open pores, a few lines and am prone to the odd spot. So I'm not asking for much in a foundation am I ?! I'm aware that some of this can be addressed with skincare which I am trying (currently doing the Soap & Glory 21 day thing after seeing it recommended on here) but I'd really like a decent foundation to help me look better as well.

I can't afford to spend a fortune but have a birthday coming up soon = birthday money, so could stretch to around the £30 mark if it was a good one.

Any recommendations please?

Try going back through a few pages on the Style & Beauty threads. I seems to be that as soon as the last "What's a good foundation" thread drops off the first page a new one appears like magic Wink

Oh OK will do, I did try searching but it brings up too many results about foundation stage at school :) Wish you could search a single forum, would save repeat threads like this obviously is!

I thing you only have to go back two or three pages to find a couple on here, or if you do a search you can just wizz down the page until you find the Style & Beauty section.

The top favorites here seem to be Lancome's Teint Miracle, Christian Dior's Nude and Chanel's Vitalumiere if that helps.

but you can search a single forum, go to search and there is a place

mark choose, select S&B and voila.

I'm similar to you and I use Maybelline mineral liquid foundation. It's the only foundation I have ever got on with, and I've tried some of the very expensive ones.

Ullainga thanks for that, not sure why I didn't work it out myself Blush. Will check out the other threads and the suggestions on here :).

I love my Lancome Teinte Miracle. I have quite similar skin to you and it is suiting me very well so far.

Dior Skin nude is v.v.recommended on here and when I tried it it was a lovely foundation.

Estee Lauder Double Wear Light is also raved about.

All give samples so it is trial and error I think.

Vichy dermablend £15 in boots- have to order it in though, go on the vichy website to see if anywhere does samples in your area

Clarins Instant Smooth - it's mousse-like and gorgeous. I think it's £25 ish.

I have skin which sounds a bit like yours. But I swear by MAC Studio Fix fluid. It's only about £20 and lasts for ages.

You also might want to consider using a primer under the foundation. It can help smooth pores and makes the whole thing last longer. The best one I've found is photofinish by Smashbox with Dermaxyl. It feels lovely and smooth when you put it on. Only downside is, it's expensive imo (£30) and doesn't last that long. Worth it though, as I've tried other cheaper primers and always go back to smashbox.

Good luck :)

Vichy Dermablend is very heavy coverage. It's for covering birthmarks etc.

Bobbi Brown foundations are brilliant. Also the new Maybelline eraser one - surprisingly good for a cheapie.
