Epilator??

Has anyone got an epilator (hope that's how you spell it -the thing that pulls hair out Shock) and use it? Are they any good? Look quite expensive, BUT I never get round to booking for a leg/arm wax and thought I might try...what do you think?

Yes iv got one and though it was pretty good. Although friends seem to think it was really painful and one experienced bad ingrowing hairs. You also don't get that just shaved smoothness because unlike razors it doesn't exfoliate at the same time.

They are very painful the first two/three uses, after that not painful at all. They are GREAT! They reduce your hair like waxing, make it finer etc. Only have to do it every fortnight now. Once you get past the first couple of attempts, they're the easiest/laziest way to de-fluff yourself. I only started using one last year & am a total convert. Choose one with decent reviews (not necessarily the priciest - my cheap Braun is fine) the extra bits like lights, pain soother bars are a load of old twaddle. Just pull skin taught, apply eiplator in circular motions & grit your teeth until the endorphins kick in :)

Thanks for this ladies!! According to my friends I have a high pain threshold (two big babies on gas and air only - not thru choice though, just too busy a midwife!). I am very fair so although I feel that I could have plaits on my legs Grin you would be hard pushed to tell just by looking. Think I will look at the reviews and choose one....

I wax to start off then epilate as it regrows, doesn't hurt as much. Also around the ankles is pretty sensitive, i get gradually lower each time, shaving the bits I've left. I'd agree though, it's the best method I've found as you don't get rough stubble and don't need to let it get long enough for a wax.

I have never tried them - and certainly cant bear the thought of some whirlygig near my bits! Hot wax on sensitive bits - strip wax elsewhere!

notskiving · 08/02/2011 16:11

can you use them 'down below'?

3timesalady · 08/02/2011 16:18

notskiving well, yeah you can if you can bear it Wink though I'm only brave enough for bikini line at the moment!

I use one all the time, if the hairs reeaaally long then it's worth trimming it first because it can be a wee bit sore. I've got the new braun one forget the name but it's like a sparkly white one. It had a load of attachments with it like shaver and trimmer etc.

Like the others have said it's a bit nippy first time but i don't think it's been any sorer than waxing ever was and you do get used to it.
