can you revive faded jeans by dyeing in machine?

title says it all, I have a beautiful pair of designer jeans that have faded at the knees. I know with most jeans this is OK, but this is a smart pair that I could get away with wearing to work meetings so they need a facelift.

Do you think if I chucked them in the machine with some dylon they would come out beautiful and navy all the way through or am I an idiot to contemplate this?

I tried this with a pair of dh's jeans, and the results weren't great. The colour was too uniform and really vivid.

that's my fear, though these jeans are denimy-looking, they're very dark navy

I've jhad good results with the dylon dye

yeah, I have done it, and it looks more like a chino finsih IYSWIM, I did it with black. I would do it, but be prepared for it not to come out how you think.

I've had good results with the dylon "jeans" dye. Its a dark indigo, proper dark navy jeans effect. So if you dont want that, its a no-go. But, I like dark jeans and have found that for some reason it doesn't dye the stitching so you keep the character of the jeans (for want of a better expression!)

I have the same problem with the knees, spending too much time on the floor with my little urchins.

Its a fiver, if they are otherwise unwearable, you have nothing to lose. Make sure you wipe out any rubbery seal type bits of your washing machine afterwards with a cloth - the dye can cling a bit to these bits and if you then dragged some white bedding or something out of the washing machine it could leave a stain. As long as you do that you will have no problems, there are no other potential "side effects"...

I have wondered this for ages too. I might give it a go. Thanks!
