Boots: fine, heels: super, shoes: WTF?

I am so confused by shoes for everyday wear! I have biker boots, converse, heels etc all sorted, but no idea about shoes that go with tea dresses, jeans etc. I work from home in a creative industry so thankfully no need for court shoes, and I can't help thinking ballet flats will make me look dumpy. What shoes do you wear?

Watching this with interest.

Boots - no problem.
Heels - easy as pie.
Sandals - yep, plenty of those.

Shoes for now, cold but not wet etc. etc. I haven't got a clue. Can't wear ballet flats, they look ridiculous on me.

I wear short boots all the time at the moment. Court shoes look all wrong to me. Also I like my feet to be warm.

LadyBiscuit · 07/02/2011 20:49

I wear mid calf lace up boots with tea dresses (with opaque tights) and pretty much everything. Ballet flats make my (short wide) feet look even shorter and wider

Peep toe wedges or chunky wooden heels look great with tea dresses, either 40s style or 70s style both work as a lot of 70s style is derivative from 40s style anyway.

Or, something like the Ripple Vale or Ripple Wave styles from Clarks Originals (don't be scared, they are not all frumpy!)

actually, there are a few styles on the previous page that would work too.

I have the same problem too, have spent/wasted countless hours searching for the like. Last year I was wearing clog-like shoes with tea dresses and skirts Like these but, they weren't good on colder days or in the rain. I'm really looking for a chunky, low wedge, so also watching this thread with interest.

monkeysmama · 08/02/2011 08:03

I was thinking about getting a clog like these maybe.

Brogues are an option. I have some like this which my (20 something) sister borrows to wear with dresses.

A friend has these which are like a softer brogue and they look lovely.

These Bloch Moccasinos are interesting. I have some waiting to be worn with rolled up jeans in summer but could see them working with dresses as they're a bit more substantial than traditional ballet flats.

I had flat leather booties Hmm from Reiss last spring which were very versatile in a light grey.

IngridBergmann · 08/02/2011 08:22

Brogue is good...I have a mens pair from Joules with floral lining...two tone brown suede.
best with thick woolly tights though.

I am determined to wear ballet flats but have not dared yet. As the ones I have are shiny so a bit special occasiony, sadly.

Otherwise I agree with a low heel/wedge, Radley do a few, or a chunky low heel.

My best dress shoes ever were a pair of kickers shoes, older ones, darkish red (NOT with white laces but dark mustardy ones, and a yellowish sole.

They were cute and gorgeous for the summer. Sadly they wore out completely.

DM do a similar style but can't seem to find them anywhere.

I refuse to go in Clarks!!! I resent their sales philosophy wrt children's shoes. and a lot of their stuff IS frumptastic. Not all but lots of it.

monkeysmama · 08/02/2011 08:25

There are lots of ballet flats on offer atm. Bloch are great and on sale at TKMaxx and on asos (see my link in other post). I have some from Dorothy Perkins which are very comfortable and cost a fiver if you want a cheapy pair to try them out.

I never used to wear them as I take a 7 and was worried they'd look like flippers but I love them now and think they look good.

snowbobby · 08/02/2011 08:35

I will be wearing these with my dresses, really comfy and a bargain too Smile

I really like those Bloch ones, I wouldn't have thought of ones like that.

Still sooo confused though, as some look to healish and others are too flat. Oh WAIL Wink
