Biker chic

"Biker chic" is supposed to be in vogue for the summer. I was at Uni in the 80s and liked wearing black and studded leather belts etc. then, so biker chic as a fashion concept has a certain appeal for me. I like the longer skirts idea for the summer and figure this would look a bit less frumpy with a biker boot, and I have a few of those.

On a mundane, practical level however, biker boots and jackets are going to be too hot to wear in the summer if we actually get any moderately decent weather. I know that leather biker gilets - the jacket minus the sleeve, like this are meant to be in. However a) they would still be too hot for summer b) they do look a bit daft to me (cf boots without heels or toes, which is a whole other topic) c) I want to be able to wear stuff for more that 3 weeks without it looking utterly pathetically dated and d) I have lifestyle issues. I live in a delightful but muddy village, have a toddler and have a professional job. Leather is quite a good fabric choice with a toddler as it wipes clean. However, I would look very daft tramping round the village lanes in the female version of this.

This is by the way very beautiful, and even handwashable, but sadly not in my size.

I did wonder whether I could get away with this for work, but I think that although it has a certain sleekness, it would be a bit too obviously sexy.

This is not toddler proof but would probably be work appropriate (I could take it off and leave it in the car ahem). It would be cool (in the sense of linen being temperature-appropriate) for summer. It might also work with the long colourful skirts I plan to wear. But...I'm not sure.

Does anyone have any helpful ideas on any of this?

What about these for weekend wear?

Well, what I am currently considering are [http://www.clarks.co.uk/find/product-is-20341436 these]]. They are only £35 at the moment. I have a similar-ish pair from last year which I wore to death, but these are more biker without looking too OTT on me. Note also the elevated but comfortably chunky heel, which I think I need. I like them a lot more in the flesh than the Mittfords. I think I like the back newbuck even better in the flesh.

Also, I was wondering whether I could wear this to work but am now thinking that this might be a more work-appropriate buy. It is more military than biker, but is sort of work-smartish while being quite edgy for my work.

PS many thnks to Clure, but I think I am too old for the little flowers on the maxi skirt, although I will be wearing maxi length in plain black and in grey stripe this summer. I think the bag is fab but would be too much of a biker statement for my work life and I fear that the coated jeans would not suit my bottom half.
