Tips on wearing high heels please?

Over the last two or three years, I've gradually changed my image. I used to be overweight with short hair, wearing jeans, tops and trainers.

I lost four stone, grew my hair, started wearing make up, and most recently, have been wearing dresses most days. I feel pretty comfortable and confident now with how I look.

I've never worn high heels though, and would love to start wearing them regularly. I don't think I can even walk in them though, and have awkward half size, very narrow feet.

Can anyone please share their tips for being comfortable in heels, and not falling arse over tit in them?

I'm hankering after some platform court shoes.

I have these in purple. they are just high enough not to look frumpy but are very comfortable cos of the small wedge.

Hi

Wear around the house for the first month to get used to them, this really helps, carry flats in your bag if you can so if your feet are hurting too much you can stick them on.

When you walk in heels make sure your back isn't slouched and bent forward as this just looks like you dont know how to walk in heels.
Keep legs long and straight and you shouders back, HEAD UP, not down looking at your feet.

when standing on the spot weight should fall on your heel as well as the ball of your foot and the toes- use your whole foot, dont attempt to walk on just toes in heels if that even makes sense

well done on the weight loss and changing your image x

Thanks, I guess I need to just buy a pair, and practice at home then! Do the gel pads you can buy help at all?

To be honest ive never tried them, but I imagine they do help, but some dont work - like skin care I guess, I think I saw some somewhere that had good reviews, think on the boots website, not sure though??!!

I would give it about a month of wearing heels at home first with or without gel pads, then after venture to the local shop and back, then you can decide if you need longer indoors or not.

P.S hoovering in heels gives you a strange desire to dance with the wire.......well it does to me lol

I've worn heels for years but I always wear new heels in at home, and also I often wear really high heels at home to get used to wearing them for a few days before I wear them out.

try wedges - they're much more comfortable

Ooh, your OP makes me want to buy dresses and shoes too! Smile

I think platforms are hard if you're not used to heels - the whole lower part of your foot is against a flat block, so you can't feel the ground at all. Same with wedges. Imo non-platform shoes are much easier.

Try something with an ankle strap, which means you won't fall out of them. Remember to score the soles with something before you wear them 'out' as very slippy soles will make it all much harder.

Other than that, it's a matter of walking slowly at first. If you can tip-toe across a room, you can walk in high heels. You need to put the weight on the balls of your feet, and at first it feels really odd, but gradually your calves will get stronger and it will all be easier. Just be very careful not to try to walk/stand for too long at first or you could damage your muscles and back.
