can't get to the hairdressers

what can I do when I can't get a babysitter to let me go to the hairdressers, I've got bad roots and not only this, ds1 broke my glasses and I can't get to the optitians either as I've got no-one to look after the kids. I just look groggy and feel trapped (and sorry for myself I have to say!) What do you all do?

What about a mobile hairdresser? Someone who comes to your house.

Groggymama · 12/10/2005 14:57

has anyone taken their baby to the hairdressers/optitians with them?

So far I have taken dd2 with me (she is 6.5 months now). Last time, she was carted off by the staff and passed around like a parcel! She loved it though and kept everyone entertained!

aloha · 12/10/2005 15:00

yes to both

nailpolish · 12/10/2005 15:00

i took dd2 once while dd1 was at playgroup but she was only crawling, and after she started to get fed up in her buggy i had to let her out, and she crawled around in other peoples hair for a while

it was a nightmare

get a mobile hairdresser

I always take dd to the hairdressers / appointments with me - just taken plaenty to / occupy ds in his buggy.

Have taken nearly 5yo when having a cut - no problem, goo as gold.

plan to take my nearly-3yo next time I go and have my highlights done, she a different kettle of fish entirely and it will be a longer session - I'll let you know!

Hi Groggymama

Have taken my DS to the opticians with me (he's 2 now and have taken him since he was born). Always try to time it so that it coincides with a time when he's sleepy - usually after lunch now as he only has 1 nap a day. Try to get to the shops early so I can wheel him round in the puschair and he can fall asleep. Has worked every time so far. He's slept through every appointment I've had.

I find toni and guy are kid friendly. Can you ring a salon first and ask if they're kiddy friendly?

Wish I lived nearer I'd come round and do it for you. Saved my mate the other day as she'd let a neighbour cut her hair who was a 'hairdresser' and I've never seen such a hack job in my life! I am a real one by the way

I have often taken a baby with me to the opticians although I prefer to go on a Saturday when dh can look after the children. I find one child only is quite manageable. They are usually so interested in all the lights and odd things to look at that they don't cause much trouble. Mine have sat on my lap whilst I have had dental treatment too and one came with me and sat next to me while I had a smear! The one thing I have never attempted though is getting my hair cut with a child in tow.

Groggymama · 12/10/2005 21:08

thanks everyone, i wondered about smears as well, LM, because mine's overdue, I may take ds1 with a torch!
