My DD is 8 months old and I never know what to put on her feet! At the mo she just wears tights and socks but am thinking that her feet might need something a bit warmer. She's just starting to crawl. What would people suggest I go for? I've been looking at the soft leather shoes like on ollipops, snugglefeet etc but I'm not sure if they're worth it or if i should take her to a proper shoe shop even though she's not walking yet. Any advice appreciated.

Our local family shoe shop (French & Sons - lovely shop in Southampton) won't sell you shoes unless they can take at least six steps holding your hands & then only proper shoes to protect their feet when toddling outside. Clarke will try to sell you crawler shoes before this but French's say barefoot is best for feet muscle development so long as walking / crawling indoors. We have several pairs of the Ollipops style shoes for walking on our stone & wood floors since too cold to be barefoot atm & too slippy in tights - try eBay for cheap ones.

i just used knitted bootees, or things like these

ChippingInSmellyCheeseFreak · 03/02/2011 21:47

Those pull on leather ones are brilliant. I have been trying to source non leather ones (personally don't buy leather) the same but can't find any. They stay on well, protect their feet & keep tham warm. Definitely don't buy anything any harder than those.

I have got DS2 a few little pairs of the Ollipops style ones, do have a pair of more expensive ones but also have 2 pairs that cost few pounds from Tesco.
I got them for a bit of traction on wooden floors and the Tesco ones are good enough especially considering he grew out the first pair in a matter of weeks.

I agree that Clarks will try and convince you that you should have crawling/cruising shoes but it is a total waste of money as they are better bare foot.

Chipping pretty sure at the price the Tesco ones aren't leather and for the few pounds they are they are well worth it compared to the £18 I paid for the more expensive ones.

The 'padders' are OK but don't stay on as well, aren't so good outside the house and aren't so good on slippery floors. Big bonus is that they aren't leather,

ChippingInSmellyCheeseFreak · 03/02/2011 21:53

Ineed - thanks for that - I'll have a look at them!

shesparkles · 03/02/2011 21:55

I used to use these www.daisy-roots.com/shoe-designs-c-6.html-there are some fab designs and they're really soft, but still quite sturdy for when they start to cruise/walk

ChippingInSmellyCheeseFreak · 03/02/2011 22:06

Rachel if you google 'baby shoes' lots of different brands will come up. I like these

marriednotdead · 03/02/2011 22:36

I couldn't resist!

ChippingInSmellyCheeseFreak · 03/02/2011 23:16

married - are you serious? Confused if you are, which ones did you get? Have you got a photo of DD in them? (or did you just order them?)

marriednotdead · 04/02/2011 10:03

Chipping- no I'm bloody not!

I loathe the sexualisation of little girls and these are about the worst examples I've seen. The thread reminded me so I thought I'd give you a laugh.

I still hate DD in high heels and she's 24 Grin

Grin

Sorry - you just never know on here Shock

I have seen a few threads about these but I have never seen them on a baby - just thought if you had a photo you could help me out Grin

whyknotty · 04/02/2011 12:02

I found this!

ChippingInSmellyCheeseFreak · 04/02/2011 12:15

Grin very cute actually. I think as long as they are worn like that in a really silly/funny way they're OK. I have a friend who is heels mad, a typical shoe girl, if these had been around I would have bought some when she had her DD - just for a laugh and a couple of photos - then into her baby box as her 'first pair of heels'. They are scary if people are using them in a serious/DD needs something to complete her outfit kind of way.

I have bought from www.thebabyshoecompany.co.uk. I paid about £10 for some leather baby shoes but, they did have some which were even cheaper than that. I ordered 2nd class and they arrived 2 days after I placed my order. The quality was very good.

How about Daisy Dumpling? www.daisydumpling.co.uk. Beautiful handmade shoes in organic cotton and natural yarns.
