Laura Mercier foundations- anyone?

I am gutted to discover that the Clinique foundation i was using has been discontinued in the palest shade. Whyyyyyyyyyyy? Have used it for years and makes my skin look great.

I am dithering between By Terry and L Mercier- have yet to have a proper try in stores.

If you ise LM have you tried the Silk Creme, or the Moisturising foundation, or the new one in the glass pot?

The Clinique I was using was Repair Wear which gave good coverage but without looking heavy at all.

I have normal-ish skin but prefer a foundation that doesn't look too shiny or too dewy.

Their oil free foundation is great. Warm Ivory is pale with yellow undertones, not sure if they do a paler one.

polyhymnia · 02/02/2011 23:40

Only use LM's tinted moisturiser, because I don't want any more coverage than that - but that is excellent - always go back to it in the end. I use Sand, which would be too dark for you, I think. I'd ask advice in Space NK, if you're in reach of one.

Also like the By Terry foundations - again, if you go to Space NK you could get them to do one side of your face with one, and the other with the other - usually helpful.

I love the way Laura Mercier foundation look on me when applied by the make up artist, but at home and especially when travelling I never bothered to follow the technique (they use a wet sponge for that dewy look since, apparently, the foundation has more pigment than other foundations), and on dry skin sometimes the foundation felt too cakey.

I used LM tinted moisturiser as well (Warm Ivory and Porcelain I think) but it did not give enough coverage. Quite liked LM stick foundation - counter-intuitively, it was not too heavy, sort of in between the tinted moisturiser and regular foundation. Easy to apply as well.

Bought By Terry once. Was OK but did not last long.

Now use Bobbi Brown and quite pleased with it.

I also used Chantecaille, they have a very pale shade which name escapes me (Wheat?) but it looked too pale on me.

i got the oil free tinted moisturiser last year and it was horrid on me. I had to eBay it. It made me look really shiny despite being oil free. The salesgirl said that it was more like a foundation but it really didn't give much coverage, i just looked shiny and pale but with my normal red cheeks showing through..therefore a blotchy patchy effect.

cabbageroses · 03/02/2011 07:38

There are 3 LM ones i want to try- LM moisturising, LM Silk Creme and the new one in a glass jar- forgotten the name.

It's so hard in stores- the light is never daylight and it's impossible to tell the true colours.

I can get to Space NK but the light is terrible in there too! I think the only way is to take along my current foundation and compare colours- anything darker won't work, and anything too sheer won't work either.

Agree on the poor light question. After various too-orange disasters, I always insist on going out in the daylight and examining the look of new cosmetics in my handbag mirror before buying. In fact, my local Space NK give me one of their hand mirrors to take out on the pavement where I sometimes get strange looks from passers-by! Obviously works best on a day light is fairly strong, though - as it is here today.

I often also walk around for a bit and look at my face in various lights before going back to the store at the end of my shopping trip.

cabbageroses · 03/02/2011 13:15

I agree. I often do "back of hand" thing and walk outside.

I know 1 SpaceNK where the make up is in the window almost- Bristol- but others are at the back of the shop- mad!

I like my moisturising Laura Mercier, and the pump packaging is good too. I am also very pale.
Go in the morning and get them to apply it all over, then go back a few hours later if you like the way it wears. I hate trying to decide on the spot.

cabbageroses · 03/02/2011 14:42

Thanks ladies

I had a bad experience with Space NK tried the Laura Mercier tinted moisturiser in nude and she applied in the shop (at the back) and I stupidly bought it and realised on the way home that is was way too pale.

i find though the variations between the shades with Laura Mercier is quite wide though as the next darkest shade, sand, was too dark for me (which again I stupidly bought).

I ended up mixing the two together which worked.

I again second Dior foundations, I use forever which is a perfect match.

Can you not go and bulk buy some of the clinique stuff before it all goes out of stock, that is what i did when the discontinued the lancome foundation i was doing at the time.

cabbageroses · 03/02/2011 17:27

thanks- I think the clinique may have all goneSad i emailed them and they do have a "discontinued try to get it for you" scheme- but sadly that won't last forever.

I have got used to full coverage of Repair Wear and it's also nice and luminous without being shiny or glittery.

off to the shops soon!

If anyone is interested, I bought the Creme Smooth. Went to John Lewis but maybe Space Nk would havebeen better to play..
Hope this is not £43 down drain.

Not sure what I think yet. Very different to the Clinique I use- much more oily and a bit of sheen.

The assistant tried to flog me the darker shade but I knew it wasn't right so got Porcelain which is the palest and it is def. the right colour. Very big difference between all sahdes.

She steered me away from the Creme Silk saying it was too matte, but I am not so sure...the one I have bought has the texture of a moisturiser and seems quite slippery.

BTW I had an email from Clinique to say that in April they are bringing out 18 new shades of foundaiton incl. some paler shades. makes me wonder why they have dicontinued load of them this month!

BTW- anyone use Bobbi Brown and if so which?
I had samples and found the moisturising one too sheer and oily- my skin is not oily but it's not dry either.

my mum has the tinted moisturiser from bobbi brown it is heavier than your average tinted moisturiser and does come in a v pale shade. feels nice on tried hers.

cabbageroses · 06/02/2011 11:41

I think the one I have bought is too pale Sad the assistant tried to steer me to the darker one but it was much darker.

I think I may be Ebaying this one!
