Best tip for the mat-ure woman?

I have at last bought my first under-eye concealer to cover up the black shadows. I have had black shadows under my eyes for 20 years but it's only recently I have started to say: What. The. FUCK. when seeing myself in a mirror.

The change is amazing.

I haven't thought "Oh hello Mum" when catching a glimpse of myself in a mirror since using it.

I am so delighted.

What other clever tricks am I missing out on?

Give me your best tips... please. Old lady needs help with clothes and make up.

Have you had your eyebrows shaped (plucked, waxed or threaded)? Getting it done professionaly can make a HUGE difference to your overall facial appearance.

cybbo · 02/02/2011 18:52

first of all CONGRATS on the concealer

Second of all, where have you been? I couldnt live without my concealer

A decent blusher is a great perk me up too. A creamy one better than powder

eyelash curlers

cabbageroses · 02/02/2011 18:55

How old are you?

My top tips:

Get your teeth whitened ( professionally) nad straightened if you can fford it.

Use make up-especially foundation ( sheer not cement) and blusher in subtle colours.

Get a nice hair cut and low-lights/ colour if you are greying.

If you over overweight, lose it. Plump and old=older. Sorry!

Thanks all.

To answer questions: I'm 46. And I'm not overweight, I do dye my hair and my teeth are quite white. Which makes it all the more alarming that I look like a 50 year old who's had a hard life! Confused

I agree I ought to try the eyebrows. And maybe I'll have another go at the eyelash curlers. I can't remember having much luck with them back in the day, but it's worth trying again.

I really do think I've reached the stage where the only thing that will stop me thinking 'Oh hello Mum' at 7am every day is invasive surgery.

brimfull · 02/02/2011 20:23

god I am 48
don't feel like mature woman

agnethafaltskog · 02/02/2011 20:47

Here's my tip: stop thinking of yourself as old. Stop picking holes in your appearence. Because in 20 years time you will look back at photos/videos of yourself and be amazed at how vibrant and attractive you looked. So enjoy it - I am Smile

Ggirl - how was Bath?

And yes decent make-up, eyebrows done and blusher.

I actually think blusher would be my desert island item.

brimfull · 02/02/2011 21:01

tracey-bath was lovely , had lunch at jika-jika,wandered round the fab shops wishing I had more money

dh and I loved the loft ,we would never have found those shops without your guide so thanks

onebatmother · 02/02/2011 21:19

But but but WHICH under eye concealer? I am using a general estee lauder one and it's basically highlighting my bags by turning them ARTIFICIAL LIMB PINK.

BalloonSlayer · 02/02/2011 21:24

Obviously I am not an expert but I use Max Factor foundation so I got a Max Factor one, hoping that the two colours would match, or at least not clash.

What foundation do you use?

Chanel vitalumiere. £££ but makes me look like I've had another couple of hours in bed. And is a great match for my skin (kinda olive-y sallow on a bad day) but makes it look better at the same time. I loves it. And i use a primer - either the mac one, or clarins beauty flash to help the make up go on and stay on all day. If I've got lots of time I use a neutral eye shadow - got a nice bobbi brown one at the moment. I always use bronzer (bobbi brown again) and blusher (bronzer on its own makes you look like you haven't had a proper wash for some reason). Finally I'm a big touche eclat fan. And I get my eyebrows threaded once a fortnight. I'm 42 and I do 5 times more on the beauty front than I did at 22 - you have to run faster to keep up these days. Trying to lose a bit of weight is good too - if you need to. I've dropped half a stone lately and I feel much more cheerful about my appearance. I think it's right to say that when we look back we'll think forty-something is positively youthful [hopeful emoticon]

cabbageroses · 03/02/2011 07:41

I have used loads of under eye concealers as me and my family have very purple shadows.

best one yet is Bobbi Brown. They do so many shades - around 16- and it stays put.

noddyholder · 03/02/2011 08:38

A nude lip pencil and a lip plumping clear gloss is very youthful.
Bouncy clean un'done' hair
Nude eyeshadows and loads of brown mascara

Ashbury · 03/02/2011 13:45

Lip stick/tint/gloss - brings so much colour to the face, makes all the difference.
"Less is more" in regard to all makeup.
Clean, well-cut hair.

MayorNaze · 03/02/2011 13:47

tame unruly hairs ie lady-tache, moles that sprout etc - VERY aging

can i hijack slightly to say ggirl and tracey that i LOVE jikajika it is my favourite and my best :)
