I want to wear some for an evening out, but don't want to look silly. Some are very thick and some gaps in them - not sure what I'm looking for (except help!).

Can you recommend any? Please post a link if poss.

Gaps are good.

See this

Its seldom you get to see lashes on someone, so it gives you an idea how quite a stripy lash can look rather clusters of lovely long lashes fresh out the shower instead of silly!

Lashes that go long in the middle and shorter on the outside have an eye opening effect. Ones with them longer at the outer edge can look funny on a lot of eyes.

A good website is Eye Beauty

From this website I've had the Naiomi, the Giselle, Ardel Gypsy lashes in the brown, and the tangly black ones (demi wispy tangly I think they were). I found the wispy ones a bit too long and a bit too wispy - I think I prefer ones that cluster or stripe, I like that cluster effect that I just can't get with mascara without clogging.

Dammit I'm going to have another wee browse on that website now because Ive just seen something!

If you have time go to a Mac counter and browse their range. They have a fine range.

Boots have a good selection too.

For a starter, I would suggest something that gives a bit of volume, a bit of length, isn't too black or too dense, and a little clustery but not too much, and doesn't sweep up at the ends but in the middle (i.e longer lashes in the middle) - then you wont be overly dissapointed and will get to see how certain attributes of the lash look on, and the things you like about it you can step up a notch with a different style and if there's something you dont like you can avoid. That would be a good all rounder to start with.

Good luck!

Gosh Tatty's post is excellent and that blog too - she must have gone to so much trouble!

In Boots, Eyelure naturalites 116 are very good. Can I also suggest practising before hand. I have oft done it on the night and had to take all my makeup off and start again because I cannot get them to go right. You can just pick the glue off and be gentle and you can use them a good few times.

Also - use black Duo glue as the blog suggests and check them for length - I often have to cut the lashes down to size when I fit them on other people. Make sure you cut off the bit from the inner corner not the outer corner as you don't want to lose the bit that curves outwards.

If you are a real spanner, this tool is very helpful. I can do it without but I do tend to use one of these to position them correctly, then let them "float" on my lashes while I position each end correctly, then slide my fingers along to ensure the middle of the band is well positioned.

I also recommend the Duo glue - less likely to "show" if you've been a little generous with it, and easy to remove from the lashes, in that its gummy when dry so you can just sort of prise it off gently and it comes away nicely, which adds longivity to your lashes, so you can use them again and again.

If you are an addict like me, keeping them all nice can be a hassle. I found the perfect solution - an empty box of artificial nails - the big box that has several sets with mini compartments for each sized nail. Each compartment fits a set of lashes perfectly! Not much use if you dont do your own false nails too (yes I am 100% made of plastic) but just in case!
