Clothes for new job

Have been a student for the past year, so lots of slopping around in jeans and Uggs. Just got a job in a school (support role) and need a new wardrobe.

Cant be too pricey.
Must be smart/smart-casual.
Nothing too tight, short or low-cut, obv.
Some colour would be nice, as I have lived in grey and black since September and am feeling so drab.

I need it all - a coat/jacket, boots, shoes, accessories and some decent basics. If i can shop online, all the better! Any suggestions, fashionistas of MN? Grin

Btw - some general info: I am 5'10 and a size 14. Slight mum tum and a bit norky, but good legs and generally carry off clothes OK because of height. Hair is sorted (sharp bob).TIA!

If you're working in school, it's gotta be trousers. After all, you could be spending a while up ladders putting up displays, and you don't want little Freddie to announce to the whole class that he can see your knickers! Blush

Personally, I wear loose-legged trousers (because you also do a lot of bending and kneeling) with a v-neck jumper and either a nice scarf or necklace. Although my trousers tend to be dark (black/navy/chocolate) so they don't stain, I wear coloured tops to liven things up. A bit of bling or some nice beads help too.

Basically, you have to think practically - you are going to get dusty knees, and paint and glue are everywhere!

Thanks Vanilla. I am working with KS4 (14-16 yr olds) so not too much paint and glue, I hope Grin.

Where do you get your trousers from?

Boo hooo. Does nobody else want to help me? have been trawling clothes websites this evening. I want to look stylish and a bit funky (I am only 30 odd, and I want to look and feel my age!), but obviously not tarty opr inappropriate for working with teenagers (mainly girls).

I was thinking slim-leg trousers with nice top (but what shape?) or knee length dresses, maybe wrap dress stylee, with tights and boots?

Sorry, Banana, but I'm a bit older than you are so can't help with funky! Also, I work in KS2, so different requirements for dress!

I'd def go for a couple of nice dresses (obv not too short or revealing!), maybe knitted ones? Fat knee length boots would look great.

I like 7/8th (slightly cropped butt not capri short) trousers which look nice with ballet flats or wedges in summer and can be tucked into boots in winter. I think they look nice with a shirt and necklace, or a blouse type top for some volume. I like these

Wide leg trousers always look good with a more fitted top so I think only work if you are quite happy with your top half (I'm not!)
