Inherited Rings to be made into new - advice please!

I have inherited some rings (gold with diamonds) which I know I will never wear. Hence, I would like to have the diamonds taken out and designed and made into something I would wear as it's an awful waste otherwise. Does anyone know where I can do this, or can anyone recommend how I can do a search for this on Google (all searches so far come up with designers who have already got collections and not sure how I am meant to word the search to get the results I want - had wine so sorry if not clear!)
Any pointers would be great - thank you!

Try searching for "remodelling jewellery".

Have you got any ideas of how you would like your new ring to look? Is it just diamonds or does it have a central stone in it too? Would you want a central stone in it? If you want some ideas for nice gemstones let me know, just tell me the colour! I absolutely love gemology.

Also if you're anywhere near the Midlands I really can't recommend the Jewellery Quarter in Birmingham enough, get some quotes for what you want done and go door to door and tell them what you've been quoted :).

My dad gave me his mother's diamond ring. It was very old fashioned and I had it made into a very simple necklace at a local independent jewellers. They did a number of computer generated drawings for me to give me some design options, and they spent a long time talking through ideas with me. I don't really wear much jewellery though and wasn't at all sure what I wanted, so I found that very helpful.

I would imagine lots of independent jewellery shops would be able to help you.

Thank you! It is just diamonds, of varying sizes (I realise I don't have to use them all.) I am half toying with the idea of a daisy or something along those lines but really think I need to speak to a jeweller as they've a real idea of what works and what doesn't.

Off to Google remodelling jewellery. Am in the north, unfortunately, but have heard lots of good things re the jewellery quarter in Birmingham - that's about 3 hrs from me (tops) so may consider it.

If you live in London take them to Hatton Garden (or wherever the jewellery quarter in your nearest city is) with some photos of styles you like - most decent jewellers who actually make rather than just sell, should be able to so this for you. One word of caution though - pay a (different) jeweller for a 'profile' of the diamonds first - especially if they are large/valuable. They could so easily be switched for inferior ones, and the value of the piece slashed - and you won't have a leg to stand on if you cannot prove it.

Any local independant jeweller should be able to help. They should all have a workshop.

I can't second fellatio enough. I had to take a ring to be resized. It had a nice half carot diamond. The shop told me they couldn't resize the ring and returned it to me. I didn't open the box until I got home. As soon as I did I saw it was a differant and very inferior stone, it actually had a dark and very visible inclusion in it. It also had several visible groves around the rubover setting.
I took it to another jeweller who confirmed it had been tampered with.
The original shop refused to do anything for ages. I kept going in though and telling my story very loudly in front of other cusomers. If there was a queue I would tell anyone who would listen what had happened. It got to the point where the staff paled whenever they saw me coming, eventually they did agree to replace the stone.

my gosh ditzy that is awful.

If you can get to Hatton Garden, there are lots of workshops there. Daniel Prince has a good reputation.

There is an excellent US diamond forum called pricescope. pricescope.com/forum/rockytalky/

You will get lots and lots of advice about how to handle this.

The very same thing happened to my MIL ditzy. She knew her diamond inside out - she'd been wearing it for 35 years! But unfortunately she could never prove it. Sad
