Talk to me about 'serums', Genifique and the like

Hello beauty ladies,
I am having a binge on beauty prods at the moment. Starting to feel I look my age Hmm.
I was given a sample of Genifique (the Lancome one). What is it meant to do? Does it work?
Are there any other um, beauty things that I should be using for helping my skin? Tightening pores, keeping elasticity etc? I also have a sample of new Neal's Yard one but not sure what that's meant to do either.

I bought Protect & Perfect yonks ago when it first came out but stopped using it as I wasn't sure what it was meant to do.

My face is in your hands gals. Wink

Serum is the best thing to use according to Sali Hughes in the Guardian. Use it after cleansing and before moisturiser and it seals in moisture and smooths your skin.

MadameCastafiore · 30/01/2011 20:43

How old are you?

clutterqueen · 30/01/2011 21:17

late 30s Shock

do they help anti-ageing then?

I read that Guardian article but she didn't mention Lancome.

Bumping in the hope of more enlightenment about Genifique.

Also - apologies Clutterqueen for the hijack but on topic - has anyone tried By Terry Lumiere Veloutee? It gets great reviews but is ££. Would love to know how good it really is.

Thanks Grin

clutterqueen · 31/01/2011 20:30

Fine by me Flowerpot, the more enlightenment the better.
Bump bump!

Clutter - instead of buying my products, I'd recommend using your Protect & Perfect again. It's meant to smooth lines and the general condition of your skin, and IMO, it does. More than anything else I've used.
But as with most products, you have to give it at least a month before seeing maximum effects (in my case I saw a difference after a week).

hellsbelles · 31/01/2011 21:13

I use the serum. I didn't notice any difference at first but after 3 or 4 weeks everyone started saying how good I was looking! So, needless to say, I'm still using it. I'm very late 30s

clutterqueen · 31/01/2011 22:11

nice one hells! which one? genefique?

Was told by someone who works for Boots tha their own brand Time Delay serum is the same as Protect and Perfect but is much cheaper.

Worth a try!

hellsbelles · 31/01/2011 22:20

Clutterqueen - yes - genifique

flowerpotwoman · 01/02/2011 09:16

Any opinions on By Terry Lumiere Veloutee, anyone? Smile

SuperTheoryofSuperEverything · 01/02/2011 09:21

No no don't buy genefique, L'oreal Youth Code serum has the exact same ingredients list and works the same imo.

MayorNaze · 01/02/2011 09:40

i have got a poncey hippy serum from lush - is like a bar so you hav to rub it between your hands then apply but v v nice for a bit of extra moisture :)

valiumredhead · 01/02/2011 09:57

I like Olay's Aqua Physics serum - hated Boots' Protect and Perfect.

SuperTheoryofSuperEverything · 01/02/2011 10:29

I hate protect and perfect too, I gave it a fortnight, but was so unimpressed.

GetOrfMoiLand · 01/02/2011 10:34

I started a thread about thus last year - was told my a Lancome saleswoman that Genefique worked by entering into the skin cells DNA and changing it's structure.

I said 'really, when are Loreal going to pick up their Nobel prize for this incredibly advanced scientific breakthrough' (I didn't really, but I thought it).

So it is all a pile of arse, frankly. Use a ridiculously high SPF and a fairly priced cream. Any topical creams cannot get rid of wrinkles.

Re By Terry - have not tried Lumiere Veloute, but use Eclat Opulent (foundation) and Touche Veloute (concealer) and it is by far the best I have ever tried - really fantastic stuff. Bloody expensive but lasts a long time.

GetOrfMoiLand · 01/02/2011 10:35

it's Shock I meant its structure, not it's.

valiumredhead · 01/02/2011 12:13

I'm not sure a face cream can change cells' DNA Grin I love the utter tosh these companies come out with - I am not scoffing, I'm the first in the queue to buy them! It IS a pile of arse though! I read the other week that cream cannot sink far enough into your skin to change or get rid of anything or it has to be liscenced like a medicine.

noddyholder · 01/02/2011 12:16

No cream can do all those things I have tried them all! Some serums have a smoothing glowing effect but it is cosmetic. After years and £ I tried a light botox and the doctor said no creams work either.he recommends keeping hydrated and using sunblock and a bit of botox

flowerpotwoman · 03/02/2011 17:08

I'll go for the smoothing, glowing effect Grin

Anyone else tried By Terry Lumiere Veloute? (Thanks GetOrf for the feedback.)
