Advice please! The chances are I'll never make it to the drycleaners, but want to wear my cheapo Uniqlo cashmire jumper. Will I ruin it for ever if I put it on cold on the wool cycle? Thank you!

I washed a George cashmere jumper in the wool wash on my machine and it's fine.

If it's the wool cycle or even better a 30c silk wash it should be fine. I wash lots of my dry clean only stuff on a silk wash and never had a disaster.

I would do on a 30c wash or a wool wash rather then cold. I have washed a lot of dry clean items this way and never had any bad results. Also put it in a pillow case and secure with a knot or hairband, it helps to keep it's shape.

God no, I put all mine through on the 'woollens' cycle - otherwise I'd never wear them. Does it really say dry clean rather than handwash?

Meggles76 · 30/01/2011 12:42

Me too - all handwash / dry clean wool goes through my machine on wool wash. I always use a special wool / silk detergent though.
Never had a disaster with wool or silk

I wash all my bora (and 'all' I mean two of them) jumpers on wool wash cold in the machine, then roll in a towel and dry flat - you'll be fine!

Woolite on the handwash cycle - I do all my cashmere like that and its all fine.

traceybath · 30/01/2011 13:05

Would say though that not surprisingly cheaper cashmere doesn't wash and wear as well as makes like brora.

Wow! Thank you for such quick responses! Consensus says go for it, on the woollens / handwash cycle. So... wish me luck! (If I don't do it it'll only stay stinky in the cupboard for the rest of the winter).
